If your dp has the spare key, ring him, point your mobile at the car and get him to press the unlock button down his phone. It works!!! How cool is that?

Bit late in the day isn't it?

fireflyfairy2 · 01/04/2007 20:30

How does it work?

CadburyCremeSquonk · 01/04/2007 20:30

wouldn't work on mine

I don't have a spare
and it is an actual key not a tone thingy

But it sounds like a good idea for everyone else.

How long were you stuck for before you figured it out?

deaconblue · 01/04/2007 20:30

eh?

not stuck at all, dh got an email telling him about it and we tried it (saddos) this afternoon. True, it won't work if you have a proper key, no idea how it works on remote keys at all but it does

fireflyfairy2 · 01/04/2007 20:33

Ah.. my key is the remote one. The spare key is just a key, no remote on it

Sounds like a cool idea though!

deaconblue · 01/04/2007 20:36

ok it appears so far my super exciting tip is rubbish.

OP posts:
fireflyfairy2 · 01/04/2007 20:39

It's not rubbish!!! Especially if it works that two people have remote keys

How far away from the car was the person with the mobile phone though? Could he have been in the area that the key would work its-self? Without the mobile phone having anything to do with it

MerlinsBeard · 01/04/2007 20:42

How do you lock the keys on the car if they have remote locking?Don't you have to press the buttion to lock it in the first place????

CAM · 01/04/2007 20:44

is it an april fool joke

Sounds like a good idea, I will be trying it out in the morning. I have only once locked my keys in the car, I had to get the AA out to break into my car. It took them ages, he wouldn't have made a good car thief!

MerlinsBeard · 01/04/2007 20:57

MerlinsBeard · 01/04/2007 20:59

the phone thing

BTW you are supposed to do April Fools BEFORE 12 lol

DeviousDaffodil · 01/04/2007 21:01

Nearly got me!

Skribble · 01/04/2007 22:37

They tried this on Top Gear, and it did work, it would depend on the type of remote I suppose.

SlightlyMadSpringBunny · 01/04/2007 22:41

The top gear was more of a stand on one leg, with one hand on your head and point the remote at the car (or some other bizare standing position required) and it will work fro ma bit further away than it ordinarily would. I don't think it has anything to do with mobile phones...

Skribble · 01/04/2007 22:49

No they did it with mobiles too, but yes your remote will work further awy if you put it against your head, probably frys your brain though .

kid · 01/04/2007 23:07

I know putting your key to your head works, I have tried that one! It comes in handy when you have walked to the 2nd floor and can't remember if you locked the door. Saves having to walk all the way back down again to check

deaconblue · 02/04/2007 20:33

It does sound like an April Fool's joke but it really worked.

DH said they tried this on Top Gear but it didn't work.

Kelly1978 · 03/04/2007 09:23

I read about this somewhere, and I thing they were looking at some sort of special mobile trasmitter that would do it, you can't jsut stick it down your mobile.

I did try it out though, and we were getting all excited cos it seemed to be working, but my car is hypersensitive and it was jsut picking up from the remote even though I was in the back of the house.

Kelly1978 · 03/04/2007 09:25

I thought \link{http://www.google.com/tisp} this was the best april fools.
