Thinking of getting a family pet.

What pets do you have, what do you wish you hadn't had, pros and cons appreciated please.

I was thinking of a dog - it would be lovely to have one for many reasons and I think it would be a good way to get fit and healthy too

Can't quite decide, can't mention my thoughts to dh, because he would be out there getting one with very little thought.

Yeah i totally agree Lisa. As i said my dads dog is a soppy thing but he and I have bothe said that we would never ever leave her alone with any of the kids.

Well I will work on Dp a bit more and see if i can change his mind, wish me luck

i have 2 dogs, a border collie x jack russell, hes about 10, and a border collie x jsd shes 3, Ds is 14 months and adores both, the 3 year old will let him do anything, but the older one takes so much before going into next room which he doesnt mind, he always moves out the way, never had any trouble from either dogs, never leave them alone together though, if i need loo, dogs come to

Lisa78, ours is a ridgeback & I've never heard that they are one of the breeds most likely to turn on you without warning (& we did a lot of research into the breed before we got her). I'd never leave her alone with a small child, but then the same applies to any dog.

???? about ridgebacks, I used to breed and show them, as did all my doggy friends, they are IMH but lengthy O the least likely dog to sink their teeth in, fierce they can be, but they very rarely bite, even in defence.
I have been bitten by my dads springer spaniel, by a cocker spaniel and a cavalier king charles, also had my leg bitten by a rottweiler on a lead at the park... And a labrador ate my rabbit when I was a kid, also had a dalmation that killed sheep...
Phew lucky I found the ridgeback! It's surely though all down to the training and discipline early on, in many if not almost all dog cases.

Dogs and cats lick their bums.

Dogas and cats like to lick human faces.

Nuff said.

I have 3 cats and a Miniature Schnauzer dog. My dog is fantastic and SOOOO good with my ds. One of the best things about her breed is that she doesn't moult so no nasty dog hair all over the place. I love my cats but I couldn't imagine life without my dog. She is my best friend and she keeps me sane

Just got back from the Border Collie trust and we have choosen a dog.

He is a spollie - collie/spaniel cross, she is 1 years old and is brown and white, looks like a collie but has the colour and ears of a spaniel

Her name is freckles, picking her up in approx 1 week anfter vaccinations and the vet has checked her over (only arrived in the kennel yesterday)

Been to petsmart and bought some toys, a new brush and some shampoo that smells like Johnsons baby powder.

DD, DS & DH can't wait - she is lovely
