Hiya Twiglett,

The rabbit will be okay if not a wee bit bored for 2 weeks. I would feed it every second day, but wouldn't bother changing it's water unless it needed it.

We used to have a rabbit that you needed 4 people to catch! Bleedin' nightmare, that's why we have a house rabbit now.

DON'T LET IT OUT!!

I looked after a dog once, an old labrador called Percy who could hardly walk!
The owner said "DON'T let him off at the beach", (I was living in Greece at the time).
I took him to the beach on New Yeras Eve and ...............let him off.........straight in the sea to get caught in a fishing net!!!

Guess who swam in and saved him in cords and boots and big jacket, and the bugger died infront of the fire a few months later

HEED THE WARNING!!

Angeliz · 16/07/2004 23:50

Would feel sorry for it though!!

I like rabbits but only in pies and stews!

SoupDragon · 17/07/2004 00:07

I think "snurk" represents that puerile snort you get having used a double-entendre. At least that's what I use it for.

Difficult to get the rabbit back in. Snurk!

is the hutch outside? if it is and you let him/her out you may never get it back in, if its inside then you can try shutting door to room and then when ready to put back in sort of bring hutch closer and closer while shutting of area bit by bit.

as for water, if it is quite hot, he/she may need more. I used to change water daily so it could be fresh, same with food. Also, you have the task of cleaninig out the hutch...yuk

Does you friend not have a 'run'that you could put the rabbit in for a spell outside? It does seem a shame. The other thing is to make sure the hutch does not get too filled with droppings in 2 weeks. If the weather becomes hot, that can be a health hazzard to rabbits as poo can stick to their fur which encourages blue bottles to lay maggots which eat away at them. It's called 'fly strike'. Not nice

I think you will need to clean the hutch during the time they're away - at least the "toilet" area.

I wouldn't get them out of the hutch - be too worried about catching it again. I change water/food every night for our rabbits. Did she leave you some hay/"greens" for it? Mine always have hay to nibble plus greens/carrots - rabbits are also partial to dandelions

glitterfairy · 17/07/2004 01:50

cassulet as well beets

marthamoo · 17/07/2004 01:52

You can't be serious? The furry, with ears, hopping around and munching on carrots kind of rabbit? What would MNers possibly know about those? You're weird, twiglett

ScummyMummy · 17/07/2004 01:56

It was when I looked after my best friend's rabbit as a schoolgirl that I found out I'm allergic to their fur.

CountessDracula · 19/07/2004 19:47
