Yesterday I totally (and I mean totally) forgot to take dd to her induction afternoon at primary school and I feel soooooooooo bad about it! Not so much that I forgot, more that I know that would never have happened with ds1 as it was such a big deal - first child starting school etc. I know she'd have enjoyed it and all is not lost as there is another one next week, but I can't help feeling like the crappest parent in the world!

This kind of forgetfulness is inevitable as pregnancy shrinks your brain. This is a medical condition and as such you can not be held accountable.

Well if you are then i am too (which we aren't at all really).
Dd2 was meant to go to a story session in her new reception class and i forgot too.

You are right though, I would have never done it with Dd1 either.

misdee · 14/07/2004 22:03

i'm crap too. i have been meanign for ages to get dd2 into daycare nursery attached to dd1 nursery school for months for the coming spet, but have left it too late, and she might not even get a place in january.

I forgot an 'afternoon' at School 2b for dd a few weeks ago

Angeliz · 14/07/2004 22:04

I'm pregnant too so that's my excuse

Aero,

Don't feel bad, no-one will give you a harder time than you are giving yourself. I have 3 sons and I feel guilty whenever one of them achieves/gets more/is happier etc etc than any of the others. I think it's just a 'Mum' thing.
You sound like a really loving mum to me and I am sure you'll make it up to dd. It's my bet that she will never remember this, but you will. Give yourself a break - it's not easy being a mum!!!!!

I have to write everything in my diary and look at it each morning - which I forget to do!

Aero · 14/07/2004 22:38

Thanks everyone (got called away just then for tea). It was actually on the calander and I just didn't put it into my brain for Thurs! Just another thing for this Mum to feel guilty about I suppose! I'm sure everyone must think I'm so scatty - it's not that long since I forgot to turn up to a lunch I'd been invited to - just clean forgot. I hate that - I never used to forget things!
BTW I'm not pregnant! Have a baby though - six mths old now.

essbee - lol - that makes me feel loads better. It was when I turned up to collect ds1 yesterday at normal time that people were asking me if everything was ok and I didn't even realize then what they meant until someone actually mentioned the induction. Duh!!
Yes Daisy - you're right about the memory thing - I first noticed it after ds1 was born six years ago and now with two more it has just got intolerable. There's just toooooooo much to remember!

No, Aero, you're a cool and laidback mum, everyone else is trying too hard.

(That's what I tell myself, anyway).

Aero · 14/07/2004 23:35

I will tell myself that from now on frogs! Thanx
