Go back to college or get a job ???

I can't decide what to do (again).

I was supposed to be going back to college in Sept to do a full time Access to Nursing course.
This was however all dependant on wether my friend did it too or not. Not because i didn't want to go on my own but because she drives and without her there is no way i could get back to school in time to collect dd's, and can't afford to pay for after school club.

My friend however just cannot make up her mind. To be fiar hers is a harder desicion to make as she works part time and would have to cut it down to just Sundays, but i have asked her several times now if she has decided and spoken to her boss about her hours, and she keeps saying she will and then doesn't.

If i don't go back to college then i will have to get a job

a) because i am fed up of being stuck at home all day every day

b) we could really do with the money

I could go back to college to do something else but don't know what. Can't do the access part time as i tried that before and it just didn't work out.

I did ring them today but i had to be put on hold and then had to hang up cos Ds fell off the chair.

Am having second thoughts about doing it full time as i think i'd be stretching myself in too many different directions.

Emma - Do they only do it on a tuesday ?? I only ask cos a girl i know is doing it at the mo and it's on a Monday ???
Good news about the childcare though.

Wonder if i'd recogniose you ???

Now i'm confused, just looked on the web site and it says that the extended day one is two days a week from about 12.30 until 9pm, for one year.

Can't find the one day a week one.

Hi nutcracker... good and bad news for you im afraid! firstly and this is only my experience, my unis have only ever had one reference from the course tutor and this goes with your NMAS/ UCAS application depending on how you want to go. NMAS is diploma with a non means tested bursary. Degree is student loans ( need to be paid back!) and a means tested bursary. I did the access over 1 year and did a three day week 9.30 am till 3.30 pm but others did just 2 1/2 days and still got plenty of points for uni. I believe that there is no difference in completeing over one year or two? They do like a reason for two years tho. e.g more HCA experinec, needed to work can be iffy as either way as a student time to work will be slim! Student bursary doesnt count towards WFTC. the other bit of bad news is that the NHS childcare grant will only be able to be accessed by very low incomes. This means single parents living on only the bursay payments. but yes it is worth 80% i dont know if you would still be eligable for help through WFTC? I know as a single parent im not eligible for any help through WFTC. However with a second income you may be?
it is however well worth doing. Highly competetive to get into child branch and adult branch at the moment. With mental health streams and learning disablilties being far more open.
But still go and do it. I just bit the bullet and did it the access was hard work but i enjoyed it. Sounds different to yours? Maybe look around at any other access programmes in your area. Most FE colleges run them. You may find one more suitable to your times?
