Taking the baby walking

Off to the lakes next week and want to do a fair bit of walking. Ds is 11 weeks, I tend to carry him in a wrap sling and dp prefers to use a mothercare front carrier. Now the thing is, what the heck do I do if it rains? How do you waterproof a baby?

Oh and what sort of carriers do people use when they are older? Are the proper walking type ones worth it?

Get a 18-24 m or 2-3yo size waterproof jacket (he'll wear it when older) and just wrap that around the sling if it rains, with a wooly hat on top. Carry a spare hat.

Alternatively, get a big w'proof coat (Barbour?) that you can close around him still in the sling.

I have used walking carriers a lot... if you're a keen walker, they're useful. Tomy Dreamrider until almost age 2, more expensive ones after that.

Good point thank you

I hadn't really thought but yes of course if I wear dp's spare jacket then loads of room for ds in there!

I've always done loads of walking but quite wary with ds, don't want to find myself up scarfell in the pouring rain!

Maybe keep to lowland walks, never too far from a cafe?

Was thinking more along the lines of near a good pub lunch myself
