Had my teeth out - also would you complain?

I had my wisdom teeh out yesterday - you can see a picture of me looking like a chipmunk in my profile if you want a laugh!

Also. I had a general aneastetic and I was really upset when I woke up in the recovery room and in a lot of pain so they gave me some morphine which took the edge off. Also I did come come out of theatre until 6pm (went in at 4.45) and was not back on the ward until 6.30 so the consultant said I should stay in overnight.

I told the nurses and they said it was ok but they needed the room for 7am the next day so I had to get up at 6.30am which tbh after a bad nights sleep due to being in pain and a G.A was a bit of a challenge. I had only been booked in for the day but the consultant said from when he first saw me I might need to stay in and it was him that decided I should stay in last night. I was planning on leaving the hospital at 9am but leaving so early meant I had no stronger painkillers this morning and I felt a bit unprepared.

It was a private hospital so all planned surgery but would you complain about being asked to leave so early?

TBH if it was private and you've paid for the room until a certain time (checkouts usually about 9 or 10am, isn't it?) then I don't think you should have left at all. I would say it was a cheek for the nurses to suggest it and I think you were taken advantage of.

Just seen your pic.

When I told my surgeon that I looked like a chipmunk after he had removed my wisdom teeth (like you, under GA), he denied it and said that I looked like a Botticelli cherub. Nice man .

Hope you feel better soon.

You were very good natured about the whole thing, Smurfgirl - I think they took advantage of you a bit.
I hope you feel better soon. Phone them if you need a prescription for stronger pain medication - don't suffer in silence.

It wasn;t the nurses fault it was the booking in staffs fault, the nurses just said that most people don't stay in, but the consultant told me to and I did feel scared to go home. I know thats silly but I am only 22 only my boyfriend is around no family and we don't have a car so I just felt safer staying in and I don't know I just felt like they did not understand that it was for a good reason I was staying and also that consulant wanted me to!

Perfectly reasonable to stay in. I wasn't meant to, but when the consultant came to check whether I could be discharged, he wasn't happy that I had properly recovered from the anaesthetic and kept me in o/night. Fair enough - I was walking like a drunk.

Ouch Smurfgirl - I remember looking like that. I'd contact the Consultant and complain if I were you. There is no way you should have been treated like that.

any other opinions from the evening people

I would say esp as you went private ,that they had a bloody cheek sending you out so early .Should your surgeon not have seen you again this am before discharge?
Also I would say you have a prime case for a discoount on your bill.
BTW your face doesn't look too bad ,I looked like someone had stretched my face as tight as poss and coated me in high shine polish

Smurfgirl · 27/03/2007 19:19

My face has swollen more now actually so have a polished look v.stylish!
