'Unusual' occupations

I don't know if this topic has been done before but I've just been thinking about the jobs that some people have to do. My parents & I took my brother out to lunch today because it was his 40th birthday, & afterwards he gave us a tour of where he works. I found it a bit unnerving though... mainly because he's a mortician!! He showed us the freezer where the bodies are kept (uggghhh), the slab where he lays them out and embalms them, and the room where they store all the coffins and other funeral paraphernalia. The office & chapel were all very nice but I couldn't help getting the 'creeps' in a big way when he showed us the rest of the place. He's so used to it now, he said it doesn't really bother him anymore, but my SIL was telling me that some of the cases are really sad, like the ones who die young or tragically. I just could NOT do his job, but my bro was in the police force for years so I guess death is no shock to him anymore.

Does anyone else out there have unusual/strange occupations?!

I work as a nurse in a GUM clinic (sexual health). The stories we get to hear are FASCINATING! There are people who get up to all sorts... I am almost unshockable now and virtually nothing fazes me. Once you have seen willies dripping with green discharge from gonorrhoea and bumholes caked with warts there isn't really anything much worse. I spend a large proportion of my day looking at willies, vaginas and up peoples bums (men and women)! Trust me, when you next go to have your smear done or whatever, we really don't care what state your bikini line is in (although I must say I do always make an absolute effort when I go for my own...!) I do this job because it is so interesting and there are so many things which make me laugh. I think all GUM nurses / doctors have a certain dark sense of humour, so its a very cheerful area to work in despite all the yucky stuff! I always have lots of stories (anonymous of course...) to tell at dinner parties, like the man with the dog and the gentleman who received a dodgy tit-wank...

I used to drive a horse drawn carriage for weddings (and anything else people would care to hire us for, including some TV stuff). And did a stint with a donkey chariot racing crew. Is that weird enough?

Ameliasmum, the MI5 have a website you can find out about such work. Obvoiusly you have to fulfill certain criteria and not all jobs are actual spies like in the movies. But i think the behind the scenes work it's equally interesting. That's if you are in the UK. i expect any country's secret service may be contacted for vacancies or training enquiries. Good luck!
