Help.....trying to get my 2yr old stop sucking her dummy

I have a DD who will be 2 next month, and I would like to try and encourage her to give up sucking her dummy. She more or less has it all day, especially at night.

Any ideas?

I'd gradually persuade her that big girls don't have it in the day and leave the night for now. Ask her to hand it over in the morning and only give it back at night. It's working for us anyway, dd is 3, still has it at night but not at all during the day (unless to make me laugh by pretending to be a baby)

why? i know two four year old's in dd's class who have dummies. they start reception in september.
just lose it. let her scream a while

We took it off dd during the day so the minute she woke up we took it off her. Then one day we decided that she wasnt going to have it anymore and dd was fine with it.

I let my DS1 have it at bedtime until he was almost 3 and then he gave it to the fairies before his 3rd birthday because that is what happens when you are 3

i tried today, but made the mistake of putting it on the mantlepiece but she had a complete breakdown, so i gave in.

I would just chuck it and put up with a few screaming fits. She can't scream forever. My friend's little girl gave hers to the fairies on the evening of her 3rd birthday so that fairies could give it to the lovely newborn babies, if you want a gentler approach
