How much money on benefits?

A friend of mine is facing the prospect that she may have to sign on (or whatever it is called).

She has 1 child. Can anybody who is on benefits give me a rough idea of how much she might get and how they hard it is to cope on that amount?

thanks

depends realy is she married and her husband working or liveing with someone who is working then she wont be able to claim a penny
other wise single woman with one child is intitled to
child benifit
housing benifit
and income support
she will be recieving roughly 100 to 150 a week with her rent being paid and council tax being payed like any sort of income its easy to live on if you know how to budget your money properly
hth

you can still claim if you have a partner and they are working it just depends on how much they earn. If it is enough to live on and pay the rent then they wont pay a penny but if it is not enough to live on then they pay towards your rent.
Being a single parent and not working she can claim:

Full housing benefit.
Full council tax benefit.
income support.
child tax credit.

i think the law allows you to live on about £106 a week anything over that will be deducted.

She will get about £55 income support and about £44 child tax credit then add her child benefit of £16.05 per week .

Thats roughly what i was recieving when i was in that situation.

I would not say it is easy to cope on that amount of money but you learn how to as you don't have a choice. As i had a lot more before this happened to me i found it very hard at first.

you can claim job seekers allowance for 6 mths even if you live with someone so long as you've paid you NIC and not made yourself unemployed

On the same subject, anyone know the answer to this one? Was made redundant yesterday out of the blue - i have a disabled child who is on high rate dla mobility and mid rate care, I claim Ica for her as my job was part time. Will i be entitled to claim anything else whilst I look for a new job - may take some time due to dd's needs. I am married and my husband earns an ok wage. Many thanks.

Billyboy, have you claim your CTC and WTC? Unforuturely ICA is the only thing you can claim. I don't work, and when DH was working, I was only able to claim ICA,
JSA is paid at a lower rate that ICA so you will not get that.
Make sure you inform the Inland revenue that you have been made redundant and no longer have yourincome, your WTC will go up.

if you're a lone parent you will get £90 odd a week income support and £16.50 child benefit. You will also get housing and council tax benefit.
Well that's how much I get anyway. You can also apply for budgeting loans if you need to buy clothes or something you wouldn't normaly have enough for. They charge no interest and take up to £10 a week off your income support.
