Driving test. How to get over that I failed???

I posted in her a few weeks ago about failing my driving test. It was my first time and I failed at very last minute. On the way back to the test centre.
Now, I have another tomorrow and I just had a lesson and it went horribly wrong. My instructor says I'm a really good driver I just need confidence in myself because I'm more than capable of passing this test. I just feel like I've failed once so I'll never pass! If I fail this time I don't even want to go through it again!!

You've failed once, relax! I passed on my 3rd time and was convinced I was going to fail by then but think it relaxed me abit and I did better. Also - I would advise not even telling anyone you're taking it. I told everyone first two times, didn't the 3rd when I passed!

Oh I was in your shoes. Late learner and failed the first time and it felt like the end of the world! Tips:

I pretended I had my DCs in the back, so I had to drive like I would if their safety depended on me. Meant I got a couple of points for being cautious but better that than the other!

I also thought that therefore if the instructor picked up on any problems, it was a good thing, because then I'd know to correct that when I was eventually in a position to take the DCs out. Better to find out in the safe context of a test with another experienced driver there.

Finally, I just thought of it as a mock. I kind of thought it was inevitable I would fail, but this was just to get me relaxed in the testing environment so that I'd know what to expect. Because if I did fail all I would do is rebook, and inevitably I would pass at some stage!

Really good luck tomorrow. Driving is ace Smile.

Ive had to tell my partner so he could book half day at work to pick up my son from nursery but other than that I've not told anyone. Last time I told a few people but not too many. Anxiety gets the better of me all the time. I just really don't want to fail x

A lot of people told me that last time. To think of it like I'm on a lesson but it's hard when someone you don't know is sitting next to me lol. Last time, the lesson before my test I was fine and confident. This time I panicked loads. Was shaking and everything x

If it's a genuine anxiety you have - I also used beta blockers. Maybe ask your GP about them? I suffer from performance anxiety and have to take them when I do presentations too.

You could be me! I failed first time, horrendously. Booked back in for 2nd test, failed again on something ridiculous.

Booked my 3rd test, awful lesson the day before and in the morning, felt dreadful due to stress, nerves and lack of sleep. Passed with 2 minors! Think I'd decided I'd failed before I even got in the car, so I relaxed and drove.

Best of luck Flowers

This happened me too. Got a notoriously tough examiner, managed the whole test with 2 minors and grazed literally grazed a kerb reversing and got failed. My instructor had to drive after that because I cried the whole way home. Passed the second time with something like 7 minors and was a total bag of nerves the whole time. Thought I would vomit, but I managed it. You can do it OP! You were so close the first time, you can better it this time! x

LilaBard · 26/06/2017 15:29

I also told everyone the first time and had to go to work with puffy eyes, while my boss made reversing beeps every time I walked past. Which I did not appreciate let me tell you. My mum made me get straight on the phone to book another test (while still crying btw). Told no one the second time.

Yogagirl123 · 26/06/2017 15:31

Think positive OP! You now know what the test involves, deep breaths before you get in the car, relax and concentrate, keeping my fingers crossed for you. I passed on my second attempt!

talkingtofrank · 26/06/2017 15:32

I have my 7th test booked in three months and I'm definitely not telling anyone as I'll be too ashamed to admit it if I fail again! I can drive perfectly well during lessons but I always do one silly thing on tests and have had 1 major for something different every time, it's so frustrating.

stinkingbishop · 27/06/2017 10:31

GOOD LUCK today Star Flowers Smile

Yogagirl123 · 27/06/2017 11:15

Good luck, please post some good news OP, we are all rooting for you! Xx

sproutish · 27/06/2017 11:18

My lesson before my 2nd test was crap too! In fact I thought I'd failed the test again as well, and thought the examiner was taking the piss. Best thing I'd say you can do is try and think of it as any other drive! But I was shaking and heavy breathing in my tests so I know it's easier said than done. Good luckFlowers

TonicAndTonic · 27/06/2017 11:25

Good luck OP. I had issues with being ok in lessons but a nervous wreck in the test. I found Rescue Remedy helped (probably a placebo!)
Don't try and second guess whether you've already failed as you are doing the test. I stalled on the test I ultimately passed.
Also even if it takes a few tests, as soon as you do pass then you are are a qualified driver - you never have to tell anyone how many tests you took I took 6

user1471173214 · 27/06/2017 11:31

Thank you everyone. Very nervous now. Stomachs doing somersaults. I will post as soon as I'm done to let you all know what happened. Definitely less confident than last time.

I failed 3 tests for silly mistakes, I was ridiculously nervous I remember my hands shaking. What made the difference the time I passed was chatting away to the examiner as if he was my instructor. Made me feel so much calmer when he made small talk back and the test went a million times better. Best of luck today.

LilaBard · 27/06/2017 11:47

Deep breaths! Good luck xx

Nerves are Nature doing her job to keep you and yours safe, to focus your mind, help you pay even more attention than usual etc. Confidence can be dangerous. Give your body a little thank you for the nerves!

BelfastSmile · 27/06/2017 12:00

Hope you pass, OP! I flunked it first time round and just about passed second time. Once I was driving on my own I was so much better, more relaxed and confident, and could feel that I was making better decisions when driving.

user1471173214 · 27/06/2017 17:24

I did it!!! I passed with just 2 minors so happy xxGrin

Congrats! Best feeling in the world!!! GrinFlowers

stinkingbishop · 27/06/2017 17:30

Well, well, WELL done!!!! Now drive somewhere fun! I couldn't think of anywhere to go to celebrate having passed so drove to Tescos because I am sad...though it was VERY nice being able to buy bulky products that would have been heavy to carry Smile.

stinkingbishop · 27/06/2017 17:31

By the way, I do recommend doing the Pass Plus with your instructor. Made me much more confident about motorways, busy cities, driving in bad weather etc. Plus you get money off your insurance and a shiny new certificate Wink

Yogagirl123 · 27/06/2017 17:32

Brill, so pleased for you! Well done! Xx
