help! I think i've been ripped off on ebay (bit long sorry)

I bought something on June 11th and paid £17 for it by paypal - thought delivery was a bit sluggish and was alarmed to note the seller was "no longer a registere d user" so I sent a friendly reminder email on the 20th June. The reply said I'd get it by the 22nd.

Nothing had turned up by the 30th June and having no reply to 2 more mails, I got the seller's contact details from ebay and left a phone message (with her mum I think!?). I phoned again the next day and actually spoke to the seller - who did sound very young - no apology, no explanation just 5 words "its in the post" and in answer to when did you send it? - "yesterday".

Well guess what - still no sign . . . rang again today and was told by her brother (!) she'd be back after 4.00 ..

I've sent her another email demanding proof of postage or a refund but I'm not holding out much hope, does anyone else think Ive been ripped off? - to add insult to injury it feels like i've been mugged by a bolshy teenager!

I'm not even sure what I can do about it - now that shes no longer a registered user

any suggestions?

TRy contacting paypal for a refund - I am trying this tactic for an ebay item "lost in the post"!

Piffleoffagus · 10/07/2004 18:35

if they are narued there is little you can do, if you pay via paypal you can do a charge back if you manage to get it in on time...

treacle - paypal has buyer protection - check out the details at www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_security-center-outside

thanks for this girls - I'll see if I can get anything out of her in the next 2 days and if not then I'll put in for a refund with paypal - I hadnt realised you could do this - I'd looked on help at ebay but all I could find was that as you're only entitled to compensation over £15 - leaving me with £2 at best - but the paypal route seems much more hopeful. thanks

Why was she NARUd, do you know? Does she have lots of recent negative feedback?

turnupthebass · 10/07/2004 20:25

I would also seriously consider ringing again and asking to speak to the mother. I know it could be a bit daunting, but her mother may be totally unaware of her daughter going on ebay - certainly that she is taking money from people!

Hope you get it resolved.

don't know if the link will work - but here is her user profile . Not great I know, 89.8% is the lowest rating I've ever dealt with, but did I check before bidding???? Honestly, every other ebay experience I've had has been such a positive one, this one has come as quite a shock. I think speaking to the mother is probably a good idea but I'm wary of asking for her in case I've misread the situation completely! - still I guess I have nothing to lose at this stage have I?

Thankyou all for the advice, I'll keep you all posted of any interesting developments.

Well, I collected the parcel today from the post ofice where I had to pay £1.60 excess postage. Having first forgotten to post it, seems she then thought it appropriate to chance her arm with a single first class stamp!

Can't even leave negative feedback for her because she's no longer a registered user.
GRRRRR!

Thanks for letting me let off steam, and for the good advice - at least I got my parcel so I haven't been completely ripped off

oh well
