I don't think so - our next door neighbour asked us and I didn;t mind at all. They might think you're a bit odd though

carla · 10/07/2004 10:41

Personally, I'd be OK with this one. Just knock, explain you're thinking of having the same thing done, and would it be ok to have a look at theirs sometime for some ideas. You never know, they may even feel flattered! Good luck!

codswallop · 10/07/2004 11:07

I reckon she'd love to show you - you kow what its like when you ahve had something new done.

we havew had Uncle tom cobley in here to see our various works

Fio2 · 10/07/2004 11:15

motherinferior · 10/07/2004 11:56

I'd be incredibly flattered. Although I am quite gullible, and of course you could be a Burgular

My next door neighbour-but-one came into look at our bathroom because of something the previous owner had done to it. Wasn't a problem.

Just say "Hi, I'm Twiglet, I live at no. 99. Please feel free to say no but I see you#ve had an extension done and we're thinking of having something simlar - would you mind if I have a look at what you've done?" and ALWAYS say it's wonderful, fantastic, gorgeous even if it's hideous!

Twiglett, a lady knocked on my door about a year ago because she liked the colour of our house and wanted to know what paint we had used. I guess that's a little different to someone asking to see the kitchen, but I really do think they'll probably take it as a compliment more than anything.

This lady was SO lovely, she came to the door and said "I just love the colours on your house, would you mind very much telling me the name of the paint you used" etc etc. I was more than happy to tell her because I was flattered that she liked it. I would just go for it if I were you.

codswallop · 10/07/2004 13:07

I htink is she said her nneame was twigelett and she had asked her firends ont he computer there would be NOWAY thats he woudl get in!

SoupDragon · 10/07/2004 13:09

"my name is Twiglett and I asked my friends from an internet chat board if I should ask to have a nose round your kitchen..."

iota · 10/07/2004 13:20

A guy once knocked on our door and asked us about our new double glazing and conservatory - we gave him the tour and showed him the window locks etc.

Probably bombarded him with too much information, but we were very pleased with the service and quality of the work and were happy to show it off.

ROFL Soupy
I would be OK with it Twiglett. We were delighted to show our neighbours our large knocked-through bathroom, just utterly humiliated at the state of the rest of the place.
This thread is reassuring as I am thinking of calling on some complete strangers further up the road and asking to view their loft conversion...

carla · 10/07/2004 13:21

Soupy! 'And they said yes, so could you please let me in.'

sandyballs · 10/07/2004 13:28

I'm also thinking of asking neighbours about their loft extension as this is something we will have to do if we stay in this house - would asking the cost be far too rude and vulgar????

Oh I would have no qualms. I am always nosing around neighbours houses and vice versa!

I looked at 4 diff. neighbours' houses when trying to decide what to do with ours. Plus last week went knocking on doors to ask what colour the front of their houses were painted.

just explain what you want to do to yours and ask them if you can see theres so you can see the final outcome

lilibet · 10/07/2004 15:06

They would let you no probs - but when I was knocking I wouldn't ask to go in there and then, more along the lines of 'when woud it be convenient......'

I know I would need an hour or two to tidy!

Why????? What did she say? How could she object to that?

tamum · 10/07/2004 18:28

I don't think she's moving because twiglett went round I think twiglett means that she, twiglett, has decided not to get an extension like the neighbours' but that she did go and look and all went well (correct me if I'm wrong ).
