Don't think your insurance is valid without an MOT. Can't you get it done on the 25th elsewhere?

whoopsfallenoveragain · 16/03/2007 09:27

you should be ok but you can't drive it from the 25th the day of the MOT as you insurance will be invalid iirc

prettybird · 16/03/2007 09:27

It won't be legal to drive in between times 9and insurance won't be valid) but I think it is OK to drive it to the MOT.

Are you willing to take the risk?

can you book it for the 25th and pay by cheque? also you need to think about whether work may need to be done and if it can get it done that day (I was without a car for 2 days while I waited for parts to come in as I got my MOT done the day it ran out)

Wow, I had no idea that was the case re. insurance - I bought my car back in November 05 with what I thought was a year's MOT on it - didn't bother checking the date, being a dippy mare, come October thought hmm, better sort out new MOT - it had run out in mid-September!! (aaargh!!!)

Thank Christ I didn't have an accident....

allmytimeonmumsnet · 16/03/2007 09:39

I had a go at DH as I discovered the MOT on his car had experied 2 weeks before so we had a real rush to get it done. A couple of weeks later I phoned to book my car in. I checked the actual date and it had run out 6 weeks before. Oooops. Nothing actually happens of course unless you get stopped by the police for something or if you have an accident. Personally I would not choose to drive without an MOT because sods law something will happen but loads of people DO drive like this just because they've got their dates wrong (familiar problem in other areas of my life!)

It's not just that you are driving uninsured - you are also committing an offence. if the plice were to stop you for whatever reason, you could have your car impounded. Now that would be expensive!
