What's a good thank you present for a diabetic?

I want to send the guy who is arranging our mortgage a thank you for sorting us out and working really hard for us. He works with his wife, so it is a thank you for her too. He is diabetic, so no choccies, but I wondered about a small hamper of cheese or smoked salmon? Don't know if this would be okay, or champagne? Help please!

boots do diabetic chocolates and stuff

hoxtonchick · 07/07/2004 14:42

Err, I have diabetes & eat chocolate! It is perfectly possible, you just have to be sensible about it & not eat the whole box at once (sorry, this rant is really directed at my grandmother, not you ). Champagne is always a good idea though.

The current guidance is that people with diabetes should eat a balanced healthy diet just like anyone else.

Aren't you nice, sending him any present at all, I bet he'll really appreciate it.

Booze is fine. My boss is a diabetic and she can really tuck away the vino.

a nice bottle of wine always goes down a treat

Yep my Dad is diabetic and still eats choccies too. Choccies and booze would be good, or a nice fruit basket perhaps?

That's great - probably will go for champagne then - easier to get delivered. Thank you!

Agree with the champagne idea. My dad is diebetic and still manages to tuck away a few glasses!!

Thorntons do a good line of luxury (diabetic friendly) chocolates.

Hiya,
I don't want to preach, but diabetes control has moved on recently to managing carbos not managing or stopping sugars... I mean how can you eat fruit if you can't eat sugar?

So as an insulin dependent diabetic - yes I inject and no it doesn't hurt unless you inject too near the last injection site - I'd say you can get them anything and then the diabetic can decide how much to eat and when!

So chcocies are Ok as long as it's only one after a meal. Champers is Ok as long as it's one after a meal. Salmon and cheese are Ok as part of a meal etc...

I hope this helps you decide,

PS My diabetes is well under control and my tests are all in 'normal' (non-diabetic) range even though I take insulin. BUT then I may know nothign about diet and just be very lucky!
