I am sure we all wonder sometimes, I know I do, whether we are doing a good "parenting" job or not. I am a single mother to 3 children, work part-time (sometimes I feel it is too much, but it is never that bad).
Last night my DS (aged 7) said something which made me smile but also made me feel good about myself.
We were sitting down last night chatting about school and what he had been up to - not only work, but also play.
He mentioned him and his friend joining hands and giving rides to other children sitting on their hands (if you can picture it). My DS is quite small for his age - not underweight or anything, just right for his size, but on the small side (but then again his dad was always one of the smallest one in his class in his school years so I wouldn't expect my DS to be any different). Anyway sometimes he feels a bit sensitive about how small he is (compact, but muscley with a six pack!!) and he said that when they were doing their "carrying game" him and his friend picked up Joseph in his class. I asked who Joseph was and he said he was the boy in the school with the "most weight".
What a nice phrase I thought - obviously this child is on the "larger" side but my son was diplomatic enough not to use the word "fat".
It made me feel good to know that as he is growing up he is becoming aware of other peoples feelings and, although this other little boy wasn't around to hear my son say it, my son was still thoughtful enough to use that lovely phrase "most weight". My DS didn't even realise what he was being kind in the words he was using.
I would love to hear what "nice" things your children say, without meaning to.
