Is she potty-trained yet? (the baby, not the MIL!)

woodpops · 06/07/2004 00:05

Hate to say it but my dd slept through the night from the day she was born. I was in total shock for 6 weeks. Kept waking through the night and poking her to check she was OK.

I have an Irish MIL 2b and when she stayed with us (sigh), she told stories of how all her kids were allowed up late to watch movies as kids!

DP has NO recollection of this but he does have a recollection of being knocked out with a wooden skoll when he was cheeky!!!

I too say "she lies"

woodpops, you do know your child is a freak don't you
(my kids are congenitally unable to get through the night without waking at least 3 times, so I am aggresively jealous of people like you, but happy for you at the same time)

Angeliz · 06/07/2004 00:18

Dp's dad calls alcahol eejit juice!!

Your MIL sounds class

woodpops · 06/07/2004 00:29

The downside was that I breastfed her. She'd literally feed ALL day long and sleep ALL night. I'd wake up like Dolly Parton then have my boobs out all day long!!!!!!!!! I never knew breastfed babies could sleep through the night.

3GirlsMum · 06/07/2004 00:30

Not unbelieveable to be honest my DD1 slept through from just under 3 weeks

JulieF · 06/07/2004 00:32

I can beleive it but she hasn't hit the 3 week growth spurt yet

treacletart · 06/07/2004 01:13

our ds slept right through for the first 7 weeks .. It was fantastic to get the sleep then because I really needed it (!) but I cursed it by being cocky and saying it was all due to him having his own bed in his own dark room etc etc.

Dont envy her too much because its very likely to be as much of a "phase" for her baby

Various attempts at pickup/putdown and setbacks after teething and illness have resulted in our ds waking on average 3 times a night for the past 3 months at least and its just getting worse...

It's his 1st birthday today and we have "celebrated" by controlled crying for the first time ... he finally settled tonight on the third round but I'm not looking forward to him waking again later - send me positive thoughts please!

My N Irish MIL says that DH "never slept". She means it literally. We say "well he must have slept sometimes" and she says "no, every time we went in he jumped up and smiled". So there you are.

She lies too!

Bibiboo · 06/07/2004 18:03

My MIL also insists DH "didn't sleep a wink, day or night" until he was 13 months - surely physiclaly impossible, but no according to her. Also, he was standing at 5 months, walking at 7 - was he a wonder child or does she lie too? :0
Maybe we should cut these MILs some slack, maybe it's their aging memories that are letting them down..?
