You at least need to be a qulified nurse I think.

NuttyMuffins · 11/03/2007 16:02

As far as I know, you have to be a trained nurse first and then you do an 18mth course to become a HV.

I am not 100% sure on this though, so someone feel free to correct me.

Hi ucm

To become a health visitor you will need to be a qualified nurse at diploma level. Then you have to complete a BSc specialist practioner health visitor course or BSc public health nurse course.

Ok, my friend & I are trying to think of another career course for her.

Due to a disability (spinal injury) she needs to rethink her career but doesn't particularly want to study for more than 2 years.

The work cannot be physically demanding but she obviously loves to work with people in need.

So, we are looking at courses, but coming up with nothing at the moment.

Wants to work in the community.

Suggestions would be extremely welcome.

social worker.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 11/03/2007 20:03

Social worker is now a 3 year degree course.

How about a reflexologist? Or a teacher?

Blandmum · 11/03/2007 20:15

does she already have a degree? If so training to be a teacher would require a years PGCE to teach in secondary.

Have worked with several teachers with disabilities, some of whom have had personal TAs to do all the physical stuff that they can't do themselves.

Is your friend going to be pensioned out of the police ? Will they not find her a 'desk'job ?

If she is going out on disabilty ont she have to be careful about what type of work she can do ?

Themis · 11/03/2007 20:42
