Which of life's simple pleasures bring you a lot of happiness?

I'm someone who has had a pretty crap time in life in my earlier years.
Things are a lot better these days and I now have such an appreciation for all the small things that others might take for granted.
Some include -
Cuddles with my cat,
Laughing hysterically in bed with my handsome DP,
An evening to myself where I can catch up with all my favourite programs,
Home cooked lasagne (especially the crispy bits)
Enjoying a gin and tonic in the garden on a sunny day with my family.

My life is far from perfect. I don't have much money and I don't enjoy my job. But taking the time to find joy in the little things has really made me feel so much more content.

I'd love to hear what simple pleasures you all love ❤️

2 hours with nothing to do but read a good book
A glass of white wine sitting outside on a warm day
Seeing my small kids happily playing with other kids and being nice considerate people

jemimarose · 20/04/2017 15:26

Sitting on the sofa, as I am right now in a newly tidied house, cup of coffee and I keep glancing at my super happy son as he researches gheckos! I too have a stressful job which I worry about and every now and then I need to count my blessings.

Other stuff:
Watching my dog bouncing like tigger in the fields
Smelling my boyfriends neck and hair
Feeling the sun on my face
Spotting new bamboo shoots appear overnight
A glass of sparkly wine and chats with my mum
Giant hugs from my sons plus I had a head massage from DS2!
And lastly reading this thread Smile

Coffee. I love it. Especially if someone else makes it.
The smell of my kids heads when they are sleeping - shampoo, sweat and baby! It's like drugs
My new phone. I know that's quite a big one but its battery lasts all day and it has loads of memory!!! And it's sparkly......

CassandraAusten · 20/04/2017 15:29

Reading a good book
Cuddles from my kids - the 7yo still gets into bed with me every morning and we doze together - or my lovely DH
A long hot bath
Going for a run with a friend - we get to chat and feel virtuous!

I really enjoy bringing the food shop home and putting it away, it's nice to have stocked cupboards, even if the treats are only Lidls 50p biscuits in vast quantities! Grin

First Cup of tea of the day
Running through the woods

I read a lovely book by Nicky Pellegrino called 'One Summer in Venice' In a nutshell - Problems at home lead to a holiday in Venice, which turns into the summer. There she try's to make a list of ten things that make her happy.

This has prompted me to have a good think about what makes me happy, not obvious things like the DH, DC, wine, gin etc.
I've got to number eight and still thinking. Mine include

  1. English Seasons
  2. Being near the sea
  3. A good view
  4. Fresh bedding
  5. People watching
  6. Birdsong
  7. Watching planes at airports (geeky I know)
  8. A good shower

It's a work in progress but it's good fun Smile

Seeing babies and toddlers. When you're older, you forget the work and the tantrums, and just marvel at the beauty and the charm.

PersisFord · 20/04/2017 16:23
