neighbour problem

i know i've bought this subject up b4, and i thought i'd left neighbour probs behind when we moved.
Recently a flat across the car park became avaialable. the council have moved in a 16yr old girl with a young baby. no problem there. But now there is groups of young lads ranging from 8-18 hanging around at all hours of the day. We have had them yelling stuff at us when getting the kids in and out of the car, running past yelling excuse me (no need, they are just being stupid and trying to be intimadating), trying to sell us dodgey goods (i have no need for a nokia n-gage and not at 90quid, and my MIL doesnt need a sub woofer for her car). there are signs around the flats saying no ball games, mainly as there isnt room to because of the cars, so these lads are playing footy all the time in the car park. They have hit our car many times. As far as i am aware none of the lads live at the flats. unfortunatly they seem to be part of a rough family which are well known for causing probs. The girls mother lives nr dd1 nursery school. as we walk past her other kids yell abuse at people going to collect their kids (youngest child is 5). I am fed up with parties going on in the car park till midnight each night, i dont want to hear eamomn and frankee blaring out all night, even my friend in the flats over the other side of the main road and towards the back of her block can hear them.

Poor you Misdee - they sound like a right bunch of immature pricks!
I think a lot of people get this type of problem and thers not much you can do about it. Usually the council arent interested and if you try to talk to the kids they just have a go even more. I really sympathise. Have you spoke to the girl before. How about becoming ' friends'. You know what they say - keep your enemies even closer.

misdee · 05/07/2004 02:01

tbh they dont like us already. before another couple moved out they made friends with them and stirred things up as we're friends with the bloke downstairs who the old people had problems with so theres no chance. Dh s certain he has heard them making drug deals in the car park, but with out proof nothing will be done. i dont really want to mix (do i sound snobby?)

Maybe if you bacome friends with her she will stop her friends hanging around. Have I got it right - are htey hangin ground her flat?

cuppy · 05/07/2004 02:03

no you dont sound snobby at all. I appreciate you dont want to mix with her - are u saying she doesnt like you or the kids that hang around. IMO making enemies of gangs of youths like this is never a good idea.

misdee · 05/07/2004 02:07

its her friends that are hanging about. I really dont think we'd fit in with them, they basically think we are snobs anyway and are just trying to take over here. they dont like us or the bloke downstairs, they shoor us evil looks and make snide comments every time we go out. Its not intimadating, i just find it petty and annoying. and tbh i want my kids maybe to be able to play outside without a bunch of louts being rude, swearing, rolling joints and drinking out there at the same time.
dd2 has started saying 'ball' when she spots one, the lads just say 'ball' over and over and laugh at her.

What dicks! I dont know what else to suggest then MIsdee , but I hope things get better for you. SOrry cant be more use.x

littlemissbossy · 05/07/2004 02:23

poor you misdee. This is anti-social behaviour and laws about this do now exist, although TBH, I'm not uptodate on any of this stuff. If I were you I'd post your problem on the Neighbours from Hell site (a friend told me about this!) www.nfh.org.uk. It's an information site on problems with neighbours plus an on-line community with people who unfortunately have neighbour problems - someone may have the answer you need HTH

misdee · 05/07/2004 14:03

well they were out there till gone midnight last night.

misdee, do any of these lads live at the property? or are they just visiting the girl? or, are they just hanging around? either way you can do something about it without them knowing it's you that's complained. BTW you're not being snobby!! they sound like scum...

misdee · 05/07/2004 15:45

i dont think any of them live there.

littlemissbossy · 05/07/2004 15:45

ok, but are they just hanging around or do they know the girl?

misdee · 05/07/2004 17:46

they know the girl. her door is wide open, but they always hang about outside. i understand the fact she is probnably one of the 1st of them to get their own palce, but why hang about outside? when i had my 1st place at 18 we used to have people over all the time but as far as i'm aware never annoyed anyone.

ok as they are her visitors, she is still responsible for them. When she took over the property, she will have been given a tenancy agreement, check out your local council's website for details of their anti-social behaviour policy - all council's have this now and some (including my local council) even have an anti-social behaviour unit. If I were you, I'd keep a record of their behaviour, what time they arrive, what time they leave, how many people/approximate ages and all the details i.e. loud music, swearing, intimidating behaviour, playing football etc. Do this for a one/two weeks, then get in touch with the council. They will probably send her a letter reminding her of her obligations as a tenant and hopefully (for you) that will be the end of it. Also, don't worry about them knowing who complained, the council have a duty to keep your details quiet. If this doesn't work, I understand that the police can issue anti-social behaviour orders to groups of under 16's (two or more) that state they must stay out of the area and not be a nuisance. HTH lmb

I would start a note book now, and then hand it to the council just before you move (which shouldn't be too long hopefully!!) Then they won't think its you.

misdee · 06/07/2004 01:15

good idea. lets hope i move quckly!!
