harman, I have recently started getting up at 6 - I also have 4 children to get up and ready and 2 days a week have to go off to work too. I find it so much more relaxed- we actually get time to talk at breakfast, and I get to have my coffee. We leave the house at 7.45-8.00.

Milliways · 09/03/2007 16:40

6am

Get up, cup of tea, put out DS cereals.
6:20 DS (11) up.
Make sandwiches / salads
Have brekkie
7:10 DS leaves for school
7:20 DD (16) gets up
Have shower
8:20 leave house with DD

kimi · 09/03/2007 16:48

OrmIrian · 09/03/2007 16:49

We get up around 7am.
Dh and 15yo and 13yo leave between 8 and 8:15
Until recently I had 5 to get ready to take to primary school and aimed to leave the house at about 8:30. 5mins later was okay we would still be on time.
Didn't seem to make much difference if we got up earlier, it just meant that we dawdled and then still had a mad rush at the end.

twelveyeargap · 09/03/2007 16:59

5.30. Get washed and dressed. Leave house at 6am to be at desk for 7am.

Abandon 11 year old DD to get self up, washed, dressed, breakfasted and to school on time. Always manages it unless bus doesn't come.

Abandon DH to get self up, washed, dressed, and to work on time. Habitually late, (ie at least 3 days of 5), despite riding a moped to work so traffic no issue.

nikkie · 09/03/2007 20:13

2 kids (5 & 7) I get up at 7.45 (sometimes 8am ) I leave at 8.20 (Mam takes over with kids) and they leave at 8.50.
I am not a morning person and neither is dd1 (usually end up carrying her downstairs!)

Skribble · 09/03/2007 22:17

7:30 DS gets up and gets dressed. DH gets up.
7:50 DD gets up and has breakfast with DS. ( I will get up if DH left early or his turn for a lie in).
8:00 I get up and put a wash on and get my breakfast. Ensure DD is eating breakfast, get her juice etc. DS will be finished by now and playing computer.
8:15 Get DD to start getting dressed.
8:30 Time for teeth, hair, lunch money , shoes and jeckets on.
8:45 Kick them out the door, turn on TV and watch end or breakfast telly while finishing my tea.

suedonim · 09/03/2007 22:27

Up at 7am, wake dd at 7.10, out the door at 7.30.

My sister used to get everyone up at 5.30am and they'd leave for school at 8.45. I never did fathom out what they did for all those hours, esp in winter. They didn't even have a tv.

MrsSpoon · 09/03/2007 22:30

Alarm goes off at 7.20am, rarely get up then, usually doze until somewhere between 7.45 and 8.15 (if it's 8.15 we are running late), two children to get out the house for 8.45.

Sugerbones · 09/03/2007 22:31

I get up at 7:30am. breakfasts, cup of tea, dressed (maybe ironing clean uniform if I couldn't be bothered the night before) quick gather of books and homework and out the door by 8:30am

Tortington · 09/03/2007 22:33

i have 2 still at school. i get up at 7.30 and get ready for work - it so happends they get ready for school at the ame time.

come 8.am i say " have you got a pen? got your HW diary? got your HW? got all your books? do i have any forms to sign? have you got your dinner money? pe kit?"

its like a mantra - ihave it off pat

then we all stroll merrily into the oncoming carcrash of the day.

Blondilocks · 09/03/2007 22:42

I only take DD to school if I have a day off. I tend to get up at 8.20, DD gets up at 8 ish & gets her own breakfast & then gets ready. It works pretty well. I always make lunchboxes the night before.. when I get up for work I don't have time to do it in the morning & the habit sticks. We leave the house at 8.45.

as late as I can possibly get away with!
usually up at 8.00 to leave the house at 8.35 - 2 kids and a well timed routine (however, no room for error so often late)!

Dottydot · 09/03/2007 23:10

7am - ds1 (5) knows to wake us up when his alarm clock has a 7 followed by a 0!!

I leave for work at about 8.15am and dp takes them to school and playgroup at 8.45am.

We've occasionally got up later (when ds1 sleeps in), but it feels a lot more rushed.

hana · 09/03/2007 23:20

we're up at 7 - 3 kids to get ready and we leave house at 830. its always a rush despite all preparations the night before......hate the morning rush but v nice once I shut the door and we're walking to school tho

Nemo2007 · 09/03/2007 23:21

Ds is in playgroup so not school run as such but we have to get up 7-7.30am. Get DS[3]dd1[14m]dd2[2m] all dressed upstairs then down for breakfast etc. Have to leave house around 8.40am as have to drive to playgroup.

Linnet · 09/03/2007 23:25

dd1 gets up between 6.30am and 6.45am. watches tv and plays her nintendo.
dd2 gets up about 7am.

My alarm goes off at 7am, I get up about 7.30am to give them their cereal, then bad mummy that I am I go back to bed until 8am. I then get up have a shower get dressed and leave the house with dd1 at 8.40am. WHile I'm showering and getting dressed etc dh is making dd1's packed lunch, although this week she's been at school dinners so he's not had to do much.

I am not a morning person and neither is dh, but both dd's are so they get us up in the mornings

2shoes · 09/03/2007 23:28

i get up at 6.15
wake ds up
go and make ds's lunch.
get dd up at 6.30
give her a drink.
get dressed
ds goes at 7.10
give her breakfast
get her dressed
she gooes to school 8.15

TwirlyN · 10/03/2007 23:23

those of you who are out of the house within an hour of getting up, do your DC honestly have a good breakfast, wash and brush teeth properly, and have clean coats and shoes in the mornings? because we have tonnes of time and it still stresses me out.

CAM · 11/03/2007 09:28

TwirlyN, yes but we run it like a military campaign, I am the daughter of a retired teacher and retired RAF officer

Shoes are always cleaned the night before and placed next to the school rucksack, which already contains the homework etc (put in the night before).

Any extra stuff is also placed there the night before eg. violin etc

Dh gets up at 7:00 am alarm, makes coffee and dd's b/fast. I have bath and drink coffee and orange juice and eat something eg croissant or banana upstairs. Dd's alarm goes off at 7:10. After her breakfast (always fruit and apple juice plus cereal or brioche or croissant) she cleans her teeth, washes her face, puts on clothes which were hung on outside of her wardrobe the night before. Dh gets dressed at same time as dd.

I have stayed upstairs getting dressed (clothes are ready night before) and putting makeup on.

Dh loads the car (into whichever one is taking her) while I brush her hair and do her ponytail.

7:40 dd gets in my car or dh's car and is driven to school 20 mins away.

Who takes her depends on our schedule, when dh is going up to London he takes her and gets on train 2 mins from her school.

Must admit this routine would not work if we had more than 1 child and there is no room for dawdling but the thought of waking earlier than 7 makes me feel ill (not a morning person).

ghosty · 11/03/2007 09:35

I get up at 6.30am:
Shower
Get dressed
Check emails
Check Mumsnet
Do make up
(While I do that the children will wake up - my children have NEVER EVER EVER slept past 7am and I have never had to wake them up
7am: Give them breakfast (cereal or toast or both followed by fruit)
Make packed lunches (for DS every day, for DD 2 days a week)
Have my breakfast.
7.30am: DS brushes his teeth, gets dressed and packs his school bag (he is 7 and is now learning to be responsible for packing his own bag) while I dry my hair.
If I have time I will check Mumsnet again
8am: Get DD dressed
8.10am: Leave house
