How do you become a magistrate in Scotland?

Moved here before Christmas. Kids are settled in school, DH happy at work but Im bored. I cant yet teach as Im going through STC registration. I have no neighbours as the estate is still being built and havent yet made any mates anywhere (sniff/sigh). In England I always wanted to be a magistrate but never got round to it as I was so busy. Does anyone know how you go about it here in Scotland?

why would you want to judge people?

They need bods to do all sorts of stuff like extending licencing hours, live music licences etc I just think the system needs volunteers to run. I`ve got the time so I thought why not.In England most magistrates are old men. I hoped that if a few younger female types joined the gang this little bit of the court system may get more in touch with a wider range of views.

'In England most magistrates are old men'

That'll guarantee you an interview...not.

figleaf · 08/03/2007 19:35

So true - I`d screw my sensible head on before I got to that stage
