Out of date eggs

I have some eggs that went out of date a couple of days ago, are they still safe to eat or should I not risk it? how do I tell if they're off?

I would eat well cooked eggs that were a couple of days out of date, in a cake for example. Wouldn't risk it more than about 4 days over I think, especially not fo rthe children.

I was thinking of making a cheesey ommelette for dinner...just for me, kids are at school.

They'll taste stale and nasty. I have used out of date eggs in a cake in the past and had to throw the whole thing away.

If they smell they are off if they don't they aren't.

I mostly certainly would eat them if they didn't smell.

hmmmm - There is a test about putting an egg in water and if it floats its bad and if it sinks its still good ...

mind you - i'm from the days when eggs didnt have 'used by dates' so I'm not overly fussy as such

Put them in a jug of water. If they sink then they're still fresh enough to eat, but if they float then they're bad.

I would use them up to about a week over, but not in a runny egg with soldiers type thing. Most likely that I would make a cake or something with them.
