Totally gutted - DS2 has ruined my piano and now it's worthless..........

after lots of thought I'd decided to sell my lovely upright piano - and could easily have got £200-300 for it. Today DS2 has taken a pencil and scratched his own version of hyroglyphics (sp) all across the front of it - and now not only is it probably worth no more than £50 (and I'm not selling it for that) it also looks awful.....I'm completely gutted

can you sand it and revarnish it?

fannyannie · 02/03/2007 18:00

I suppose we could do - but it would be a mammoth job as we'd have to sand the whole thing and it would take ages.

Oh no, that's awful I would be devastated if anything like that happened to any of my instruments. They are much more than just objects, aren't they?

Could you do as Twig suggests and sand/revarnish it? Or could an expert come in an do it? I suppose that woul be pretty expensive though.

Do you have accidental damage insurance?

MrsSpoon · 02/03/2007 18:13

Hmmm, that's maybe not the correct name for it, but I know we have insurance for DH/DS disasters.

that is my WORST NIGHTMARE.

i've also found that hills violin polish can 'disappear' some scratches. depends on how deep they are.

is it just the varnish or is the wood actually scratched.

this has got me in cold sweats.

fannyannie · 02/03/2007 19:58

they're pretty deep - it looks like the wood itself has been scratched (although I've not dared to look too closely since I saw it).

Dh was actually here with DS2 when it happened while I was enjoying a rare shopping trip (ok mainly paying bills but still time to myself LOL) on my own - and DH refused to tell me why DS2 was on the naughty step on my return until I spotted the damage myself - he admitted he just didn't know how to tell me. It's not DH's fault - he'd only been standing in the kitchen when he did it and he's so quick when he gets up to mischeif.
