We had water damage to our Living Room carpet due to a leaking radiator. So our insurance were replacing the carpert.
We were told to have the room cleared and the carpet lifted for Friday PM.... no specific time. So, DH took the day off work today to clear the room.... I arrived home at 2pm, still no fitters had arrived. Ds is at my Mums so that was a relief. At 8mths pregnant I have been sitting on a dining room chair waiting for the carpet to be f**king fitted.

Anyway, he just arrived at 3.45pm and the idiot from the carpet store had measured it 6inches TOO SHORT!! So we now have a living room with only underlay and those spikey grips around the edge exposed! The old carpet we were advised by the tosser measuring the room to cut into strips to make lifting easier.... so it's ruined and lying by the bin outside!

The soonest they can fit it now is Wednesday as they have to re-order!

I AM FUMING! Do you think I have the right to ask for a refund on my £50 excess??? The carpet company have had my money for 2 wks now!

I mean, even the carpet fitter commented on how hard it was to get measurements wrong!

Well... if you ask for a refund and order from another place it may take longer... however, next time they come, let them move the furniture out and back in themselves! (it's difficult to say no to a pregnant woman, so use your chance )

I'd be fuming too. If they are totally at fault then IMO you are entitled to compensation. The spiky things will be dangerous won't they?

Not Allied, by any chance?

CountessDracula · 30/06/2004 19:42

Toothache you can definitely get them to move the furniture next time. Wankers

Hi folks,
Had to dash after I started this thread! Thanks for your replies. I had a phone call from the parent company apologising for the shoddy job they did of laying the carpet???? I said "Eh.... no carpet was laid, they cut it too small!". The guy at the other end of the phone got very flustered and apologised for the fact he'd been given the wrong info. I added to my complaint that now that we have been walking about/moving furniture on the underlay, it will need replaced now too. And I said I wanted my £50 excess refunded. He agreed and said he'd phone me after he'd spoken to the MD of the Carpet Retail Outlet. I informed him that it had been the MD that had measured the room wrong in first bloody place!

So, the situation remains that we are walking on underlay, but hopefully we'll get our excess refunded.

.....maybe I should've went for a bedroom carpet too.

BSTARDS!

I had a message on my ansafone last night phone Cavalier Carpets complaints dept. So I'm just off the phone to them. They have spoken to their retailer and the retailer has offered me a £25 refund on my £50 excess!!!!!

What an INSULT! I explained rather politely that they had a cheek since they sent around their Managing Director to measure a rectangular room and he managed to get it 7inches wrong???

I explained again that my toddler had been dodging upturned rusty nails for 4 days now since they old git told us to cut up our old carpet before the fitters arrived! I also explained that the insurance company had asked if I would rather go to a different retailer of my choice..... I declined as I had a date of Wednesday for them fitting the carpet and didn't want to drag it out any further..... SECOND THOUGHTS NOW!

Do you think I'm unreasonable to refuse their offer? I just think they have a cheek expecting to keep have the excess when they have left us in the sh*t like this for 4 days!

I'd demand all your money back and compensation for the inconvenience and dangerous state they left the room in. Really push your point, saying that you will be reporting them to the Trading Standards department, Watchdog, etc. They hate bad publicity. Also, demand to speak to the top dog, none of his yappers.

Toothache · 04/07/2004 12:39

Thanks Freckle - I was getting paranoid that I'd perhaps went a bit over the top.
