Aaaagh - the TV's broken

I never thought of myself as a TV addict, but the TV stopped working this morning and I'm having withdrawal symptoms. I'm so sad - I keep wandering into the sitting-room and automatically turning it on, I think it's a reflex action.

DH dug out the manual and found a five year warranty with it, hopes were raise and then cruelly dashed when we found we were 6 weeks beyond the warranty date. Are they designed to break down immediately after the warranty ends? I suppose it would make economic sense for the manufacturers.

DH has been making noises about seeing if we can do without it, so I've ordered a DVD that I know he wants to watch for his birthday next week.

Not too bad tonight - I'm watching Grosse Point Blank for the umpteenth time on dvd on the computer. DH is making noises about needing the computer later for some "important work" though.

Out of interest I did a quick poll in my part of the office and, apart from a single man who lives in a studio flat, I'm the only person with only one TV in her home. Does everyone have multiple tvs?

3 TV's in this house, 3 video's, 2 DVD players and a PS2

There will probably be another big screen TV when the playroom is sorted.

We have 2 Tv sets, one in the living room and one in the kitchen. We also have a Matrox PC-VCR tv card in my computer, which means I can watch Tv whilst browsing MN.

We only have one television - and it's a 14 inch portable one as well. I think if we had anything bigger it would look silly in our small living room!

How many people are there in your house Flip? I remember when I was still living with my parents that we ended up with 5 TVs for 4 people, and then I moved out so they have 5 for 3.

We used to have a second TV, but after we'd lived in this flat for almost a year without even plugging it in we gave away to DH's church. We're slightly regretting that now.

We should get a tv card for the computer like you MB, the computer has a nice big screen and I'm enjoying watching my DVD on it - it's a better quality picture than a TV.

3 TVs in our house - 1 in the kitchen, 1 in the lounge and 1 in the family room/ex playroom (not sure what we call this room now - used to be kids playroom - had sofa/chair etc - but now they have all their toys/books etc in their bedrooms ).

DH normally watches his sport/DVDs in the lounge and I use the family room as it's my fave room of the house - very relaxing and cosy.

Have 1 video and 2 DVDs.

Sorry that last message should be 'had 5 for 3'. Since then my brother has moved out, TVs have come and gone, and my mum tells me they only have 4 TVs for the two of them. Pity they're so far away or I'd just go and borrow one. DH and I rarely buy things in a hurry, and we were hoping to wait for the price of plasma TVs to come down before we bought another TV, so I may be without a TV for a while.

There's four of us in the house.
Big wide screen TV in lounge with cable TV, DVD player and Video.
Portable in our bedroom with video and PS2
Portable in ds1's room with video and DVD player.

Maybe this could be a chance to do lots of things that there never seems to be time to do? Rent out loads of fantastic CD's from the library, read a few good novels, do some craft type things all spring to mind. I don't know how I would get anything done if we did have a television...

xoz · 24/06/2004 22:24

we only have 1 tv and we don't own it, got ti on loan from dh's company when we moved down here and I think they've forgotten we have it. I hardly watch it since I discovered mumsnet!!!

bran · 24/06/2004 23:06

You're right jennifersofia, it could be an opportunity, but I strongly suspect it won't be. I should catch up on housework, laundry and all the other homemaker stuff, but I hate it - I'd rather be bored, usually I do it in 3 minute spurts while the ad-break is on. I've also lost the knack of being totally absorbed in just doing one thing - I listen to music while at work, I quilt-make whilst watching TV, I play computer games whilst chatting on the phone. The only thing I can really do on its own is read, even that I mostly do while commuting or having a bedtime conversation with DH, but I'm totally out of books. I've ordered some from Tesco which I'm hoping will arrive tomorrow.

I should really get a life.
