How old were your kids when you had your 'easiest' year of parenting?

Used to hate it when I first had children and people used to say, 'Don't worry, it just gets harder,' and though it does and it doesn't I now find myself saying this to other new parents. My dds are nearly 3 and nearly 5. Just wondered what parents with older kids think about it getting easier or harder. Obviously I realize it depends how many kids you have and their relative ages but opinions please.

still waiting for it ..........oh but dd has cp so don't think there will be one

Still waiting for it. Not surprising though, with 19y,17y,15y,14y,12y,10y,8y,7y,3y. Sometimes methinks it may never happen

I think When my son got to 14/15yrs He is so sensible and wise ( very worrying ) I'm sure I was never that sensible! Now I just Have to deal with my Stroppy 4 yr old DD!!!

MIne are pretty good atm ,5&7, big enough that I can sit back and watch them at aprk/soft play etc and not big enough that they want to be out on their own with me worrying about them!

My easiest year was the first year of dd1's life. When I just had one terribly content easy baby.

It's been all downhill from there...

Hardest year when they were 4, 2 and 0, I guess.

Wanderingstar, I'm really hoping for that golden age to kick in in a year or so with mine (they are 6, 5 and 2 now).

dd has been a delight from age 2-4 she is 4 now and still a cherub
DS was hard as a young child, very demanding and busy and non sleeper
But as a pre teen it has been harder in a lot of ways as his mum I've distanced away as his interests change and has he morphs into a young fella.
So for him easiest was 5-8.
I'm due in 3 wks with #3
Will revise opinions then

i dislike babies, especially my own - in this light i would say that the easiest yeasr of parenting started when the kids went tos chool and they wee positivley joyous from aged 6. from 6 - 12 are lovely years.

things get more complicated as they his teenagerdom - but its not as hard as having 3 under 3. and the people who say it gets harder are ferkn liars IMPO

wartywarthog · 26/02/2007 15:46

thank god custy. i don't like babies either. was beginning to think i was the only one...

LittleSarah · 26/02/2007 15:47

Well dd is only just about to be 3 so have very little experience.

I would say first 9-12 months fairly easy, before mobility kicks in! Then not too bad, but definitely harder. It is far easier now she can communicate, she is generally well-behaved thank god. Still must keep busy but getting easier, so far.
