wedding dress advice - quick!

I'm following a couple of ebay auctions for my wedding dress. One of them is this dress

The other one doesn't have a clear picture and I'm still waiting for her to confirm the size. But it's a bit more unusual, if less immediately stunning (IYSWIM).

The first one is £500 (unless anyone else bids in the next hour - hence I haven't linked to the actual auction! ), the second £200. Barring any red-wine accidents I suspect the first one would be easier to sell on afterwards.

I don't know whether to just pay the £500 or to wait on this other one and maybe look around some more. What do you think?

Senora - try a spanish designer house called Pronovias (website pronovias.com I think) - its where I got my dress - very different and not really that expensive. XXX

(I do like the one you have the link too though)

Twinkie - I went to the pronovias shop in Granada. The dresses I liked were upwards of 1000 euros - the nicest one was 1400 (and was fairly similar to the one I've linked to). £500 is pushing it!

Sorry Honey - I have no idea how much that is (Euros I mean!! Doh!!) - mine was £750 and that was 5 years ago and was not one of their super duper ones but everyone said how differentit was!!

Have you tried other second hand bridal websites??

soapbox · 21/06/2004 12:05

SP

Can you describe the other one for us?

I do like the one you've linked to but £300 difference in price is a lot. Can you link to the other one - don't think many people here will be rushing to bid against you!!

SenoraPostrophe · 21/06/2004 12:06

1400 euros is about £1000.

Yes, had a look. But now my head is spinning. I did find another eally nice one, but I suspect it would be rather unflattering to my large bottom so I am loathe to buy it over the internet.

there's 2 others I like.

this one is the one I think might be unflattering, plus it would need altering to my size.

this one is a bit hard to see and I don't know the size (but I guess it could be altered)

To be honest for £500 or not much more you could go out and buy a brand new dress, I know mine (traditional ivory, beaded, train etc was £550.

It is a lovely dress though, I'm guesing it is designer and would therefore cost a lot more new.

I've just looked at what I think is the actual auction and there is a reserve on it so you may not get it for £500 even if you are the highest bidder.

Mmmmm - have to say I prefer the first one you posted.

Don't think the celtic one would make yours bum look big - looks like it would make your waiste look tiny

Have you looked at the monsoon website - there was a girl in the changing room the other day trying one on and she looked stunning!

bunnyrabbit · 21/06/2004 12:13

SP. I love your taste in dresses!!

What's the £200 one like?

BR

SenoraPostrophe · 21/06/2004 12:13

Julie - I know, but I haven't liked any of the ones I've seen for that much. I think I'm developing expensive tastes!

Have just tried this dream Dress thing Senora and its quite good and most of them look less than £500!!

You put in all the things that you want as well as the size and it shows you pictures of all of the styles it has like that!!

aloha · 21/06/2004 12:28

Senora, if you really want the dress on ebay stay with it, and with about three mins to go put on a higher bid and then about a minute or so after that put on the highest bid you are prepared to go to so your final bid appears about 45 secs before the auction ends. I have been pipped at the post on ebay by £1 before in the dying seconds so have been perfecting my bidding technique! Don't wait until someone else bids higher as by then it is probably too late.

SenoraPostrophe · 21/06/2004 12:51

I've decided I need more time! Hopefully if no-one buys it, she'll re-list it, but if not I'll find something.

Aloha - I missed another cheaper but similar dress the other day with that strategy (I forgot to go back and put in a last minute bid). I'll write it on my forehead next time
