Green Poos ?

My mum is looking after dd today and says she has just done her 3rd poo and it was bright green and very gassy. Any advice anyone on whether I need to be worried ? She said it smelt terrible and was the weirdest colour but that dd isn't off her food and is in very good spirits.

DH and I have had slightly odd tummies the last couple of days. Nothing major but not quite right. Maybe it's the same thing ? Does anyone have any advice ? Should I be concerned and take action ?

Tillysmummy, our dd had this at around a few mths old too - I took her to the doctor as a precaution (they just checked her tummy wasn't hard, checked her over for any signs of dehydration and took a stool sample just in case it was a bug which needed antibiotics eg giardia) and got some dioralyte on prescription. dd's poo was very watery/slimy/green for days - a sign that the bug has disrupted normal absorption of nutrients I think (sure there's a much more scientific way of saying that!). I'd just keep the fluids up and as long as she's not dry (depending on age fontanelle could 'dip', she might not have any tears or much saliva if really dehydrated and skin sort of sags too I think) she should be ok. I wouldn't feed her anything except breastmilk and dioralyte.

HI bundle, thanks for that. She isn't actually on the boob any more, she's 9 months and has 2 bottles a day and 3 meals a day.

I think she probably has a mild version of what we have. I don't think she's dehydrated though, I will get mum to check.

How old is your daughter? Maybe it could be something she ate. Like a dark green veg. Some foods can change a babies poo color. Since you and your dh had not so well stomachs I would call the doctor just to see what he or she says.

Yes threeangels, I think I will, thanks for that. She's 9 months.

Tillysmummy, also if she's happy in herself, that's the best sign

Yes she is bundle, or so my mum says, it's always difficult when you're not there yourself.

I just phoned the doc and they said more or less the same and to keep an eye on her.
