How much do you pay to go swimming?

Our local paper recently ran an article saying how expensive swimming is here, and I think the opposite! So quick poll. How much does it cost you to take:

a) 2 adults and 2 U5s swimming
b) 2 adults and 2 children

The answers for us are:
a) £6.60
b) £7.90

There are also further discounts available for frequent users/borough residents, and children who have swimming lessons.

Blimey, I hadn't realised how lucky we were. Primary school children free (and presumably under 5s too), adults between £1.60 and £2.40 depending on the time of day.

I was just told by the manager of my Health Club today, that over the Summer holidays I can take my kids for free.

islandgirl · 18/06/2004 19:44

jac34 - you are lucky, I pay £3.20 per child per swim.......and they are both under 5

chloeb2002 · 18/06/2004 20:00

Ok so im lucky then and will stop moaning about swimming prices...
i buy a saver rate (means tested benefit and full time student (nurse)) and it would cost £1.20 for an adult and under 5 's are free. But in addition i buy 10 swims at a time and that costs £1.05 a swim
normal rates are £2.00 for adults

Miaou · 18/06/2004 20:31

Ours is £2.80 per adult, not sure about children as I went on Thursday when we were on school trip with the children and the school paid, but I know it was more than £25 for 8 children and 3 adults, and we said at the time that it was pretty expensive.

charliecat · 18/06/2004 20:33

ours is nearly £10 for 2 adults, one 6 year old and a toddler.

MadameButterfly · 18/06/2004 20:35

I take my DD on to our local pool when they do a Parent and Toddler Splashtime. That costs me £2.50.

clary · 18/06/2004 23:50

I pay £1.90 with a special card, £2.30 otherwise i think. Under 5s free. Over 5s not sure but will soon find out as DS1 was 5 on Wednesday! Some pools in this area h/ever charge for over 3s and don't accept my card (wrong council) so it costs me about £4.50, so I don't go there...

mummytojames · 18/06/2004 23:54

all i can say is where do you go swiming the average price at our leasure is 5 pounds plus per adult and i think it 2.50 for children over two and free for under two

roisin · 19/06/2004 08:23

Thanks for all your responses ... sounds like our prices are not that low. Where we used to live we had to pay for U5s, even babies. It was an outdoor pool (which I loved), but it meant babies/toddlers could only stay in for 20-30 mins max. And it used to cost about £8 for me to take my two ... for 20 minutes

Here U5s are free, and I have a leisure card, so it would cost be £2.30 to take two little ones, and it's a much better complex for kids anyway.

Bet we pay the most. Over 100 quid a month. DS1 needs to swim as part of his therapy. He will not go in either of the local pools (well he won't go in the changing rooms- they're too dark I think- screams the place down and runs away). So we had to join a gym. It is lovely (indoor and outdor pool) but VERY expensive considering we only use it for swimming.

fairydust · 19/06/2004 13:23

under 6's are free adults are £1.50
