Hi all, my 21 month old son knows the name of virtually all his body parts by now and everytime I bath him we go through all the parts of his body and say what they are called. He is now particulary interested in his penis and keeps pointing at it for me to tell him what it's called. The thing is do I call it by it's proper name or give it a nickname, my friend's little boy calls it his "little man"! I find it all quite amusing but should I be straight about it or keep it light hearted.

When I had had ds, dd (just 2) came into the bathroom one day when I was changing my pad. She burst into giggles and said 'Mummy Nappy!'

Very interested to read all this as have never known what label to give to female parts that would be acceptable and understandable to other people! I would prefer my daughter to ask somebody "Have you got a minnie?" rather than "Have you got a vagina?" which sounds so biological! I don't think we have to give everything accurate names, after all, we use "tummy", "bum", etc. It's easier with boys as everyone knows what a willie is! I told my daughter when she was 3 or 4 how babies get out of their mummy's tummy and she just laughed. Oh well.

Sadly, death came up quite recently for us. My Grandma, to whom my ds was very close died, after a long, long illness. It was very difficult, for everyone involved. I think he has come to accept, but understand...Does anyone???

It's ok Rhiannon, I was just feeling a little emotional, it was a little bit of a digression (is that the right word???)

DS1 (3) calls his "bits" and I explained that girls have Special Bits when he asked where mine were a while ago. However, he thinks the actual difference between girls and boys is that girls wear knickers and boys wear pants
