managed to scratch our car AND a car down the street last night. And the car belongs to a lady I know - who happens to be the chairman of the local neighbourhood watch AND is on the PTA (or whatever its called) at the school.

Thankfully she's a very lovely lady so I'm sure she'll take it well - especially as DH has gone to speak to her now (now we've worked out whose green car he got) and at least is being honest that it was him.........he hasn't got the guts to admit the real reason for him managing to do it......he's going to tell her he was tired on not concentrating - silly prat actually 'forgot' that he was going to walk back from him mates last night (after driving there as he was running late and then planned to pick the car up this morning) and brought the car back with him .

He's just got a quote for our car of £100+VAT.....and I should imagine hers will probably cost similar......II suppose we could claim it on the insurance - but by the time we've paid the excess it wouldn't cost much less.

actually - he's just popped back in and said that her car really does look bad - and that it's going to be an insurance job - especially if ours (which came off better) - he's now worried about how she'll react to finding out "it's ok I'll claim on my insurance......but you'll have to wait until the end of the month until we've got the £150 excess".........thing is I know her quite well and I'm 99.99% sure that she'll be fine about it and just be thankful for his honesty that it was him that did it

The excess shouldn't affect the claim with regards to her car getting fixed, it'll only slow things down for yours.

serenity · 17/02/2007 13:36

In fact it definitely won't - I've had two cars written off under other peoples insurance and I've never had to wait on the other driver doing things. The last one was drunk, so he wouldn't even have had his own damages paid for but I had a hire car within two days and a cheque within two weeks.

fannyannie · 17/02/2007 13:38

haha - well he's now looking mightily relieved (and also slightly confused too). Her car is the only green car that parks in our street that had scratches on it......but she says they were done by a Pickfords lorry - which she saw happen - he asked her to look at it to make sure there wasn't any 'extra' that he may have done and she wasn't bothered about it at all - just said "oh well a few more won't hurt" - and that was that.......so if it isn't her car we're wondering where the green paint on his car came from !

oh, got to involved in the insurance things to express sympathy for your DH, sorry It's a bugger when you do things like that. When I was pg with DS1 I tried to get out of a really tight parking spot after work and scratched this really posh white car with my very old red car My belly just wouldn't let me turn enough to see properly. The car owner was lovely about it. Very, very embarrassing though.

serenity · 17/02/2007 13:41

xposted,

That's ok then - might still be her green paint, but if she's ok with it........I bet your dh feels relieved!

fannyannie · 17/02/2007 13:43

I have no sympathy for him at all - the reason he was going to leave the car at his friends and walk back is because he was going there to have a drink..............

Best thing is he got a call from his friend this morning asking where his car was - thought it had been stolen! - as said friend didn't realise he'd taken it home

Did he not drink then?

fannyannie · 17/02/2007 13:48

yes...he did - hence no sympathy from me....funniest thing is I know for a fact he came to bed at 4.53am (as I woke up when he came into the bedroom). - He swears blind they all went home around 2am.......so he's not sure what happened in the 3hrs between LOL.

I would be a bit more concerned about an accident he can't recall and 3 missing hours than thinking about your overtime money getting blown on repairs.

fannyannie · 17/02/2007 13:59

oh no - he remembers hearing a horrible "Crunch" as he was trying to park the car so he remembers the accident....as for the 3hrs he doesn't remember - I think he just got his times mixed up......he's hopeless at keeping track of time with alcohol inside of him.

Are you two sorting things out now then fannyannie?

bubblerock · 17/02/2007 14:03

I wouldn't say anything was funny about this - he was very drunk and driving!!

fannyannie · 17/02/2007 14:08

bubble - the only thing I'm finding funny about it is how embarassed and ashamed of himself he is - without me having to say anything to him about it.

FF - yes he agreed to go to Relate - we've had one session and we're going to book some more once I get paid.

Fannyannie - does he know the minimum penalty for drink driving is a 12 months disqualification and max is 2 yrs in prison and up to £5,ooo fine?
Thats if he is lucky not to harm or kill someone. Seriously if that was my Dh I would be absoutelt furious at such a stupid act. He could have killed himself.

fannyannie · 17/02/2007 14:18

yes he does - and TBH although I'm mad at him - I don't really see what the point of lambasting him about it is going to do. He's already sat down and gone through the "omg it could have been so much worse I could have hit someone how can I have been so stupid" (his words) so me getting worked up over it and having a go at him would achieve nothing.

Glad to hear you are making a go of it
