I've been listening to HP5 in the car.

When snape takes Harry for Occlumency lessons he takes 3 memories from his mind and stores them in the pensieve.

Later we find out two of them, him as a child and his father bullying his mum, him as a teenager being bullied by Harry's dad, so what was the third memory????

Ooh now you've got me thinking.

That will bug me now for the rest of the day.

rosylonginglily · 17/02/2007 12:44

ooh the other one has to be the key to why dumbledore trusted him!

essanel · 17/02/2007 12:45

oh no!! Now my ironing wont get done as I'll have to get book out again!! Have you pre=ordered new book yet? I did on Amazon but will probably end up in Tesco's just after midnight - dh works in tesco and banned me from going into get half blood prince (although i did end up sneaking up at 6.30am when he was asleep!) -- I can't wait to read them with dd who is nearly 4.....so much better than the famous five i had when i was younger!

HeartOnMyGreensleeve · 17/02/2007 12:45

Probably him nobbing Lily Potter.

Maybe Harry is really Snape's but he's been bewitched to look like James?

rosylonginglily · 17/02/2007 12:51

Greensleeve that is an evil evil thought. But I think it's a childrens book.....
So it's probably him snogging lilly Potter

Blandmum · 17/02/2007 13:05

I think that it has something to do wuth him being in love with lily, and also the reason why DD believes him.

It has been annoying me too!

nobbing lily potter?

misdee · 17/02/2007 16:12

pmsl greeny.

MerlinsBeard · 17/02/2007 16:16

before you read it to your 4 yo, theres an adults version and a kids version...dp thinks that the adult one will be gruesome-er

Caligula · 17/02/2007 16:17

I thought the adult version was the same but just a different cover

ledodgy · 17/02/2007 16:17

I thought it was only the covers that were different? Don't tell me i've been missing all the juicy bits by reading the children's version so far!

WanderingTrolley · 17/02/2007 16:18

"Shit - I left the iron on"

"Must buy bread"

"Cancel ballroom dancing lesson"

"Renew GayTimes subscription"

"Book tickets for Equus"

???

KTeePee · 17/02/2007 16:19

Adult and kids versions are the same - just different covers - so adults reading it in public won't be embarassed at reading "children's book"

MerlinsBeard · 17/02/2007 16:19

thats ok then! hadn't thought of the covers being different - duh! Just didn't want a poor 4 yo traumatised!

essanel · 17/02/2007 17:41

lol mumofmonsters - my dh thought the adult version was an ADULT version !! he was disappointed when i told him the truth.. I would like to start reading it with her but would prefer if it was a picture version so may have to wait a few years!!

tribpot · 17/02/2007 17:50

Snorting at the idea of an adult version of HP.

Why did Snape put the memories in the Pensieve? Putting them there doesn't take them out of his own head, does it? (Or is it like storing to a memory stick?! Pun intended!)

If the latter, presumably it was to make sure that if Harry turned out to be a wicked Legimens (is that the right word?) he wouldn't get access to these memories that humiliate Snape.

Kbear · 17/02/2007 17:52

Am I seriously the only person who hasn't read Harry Potter? Or seen the films? I am feeling left out. I need to get with the programme obv.

tribpot · 17/02/2007 17:55

You should start a support thread, KBear - "People who don't know what Harry Potterists are wittering on about"

nikkie · 17/02/2007 18:13

LOL at Wanderingtrolleys wandering mind!

Thats why I like listening to the tapes as I always notice little details I miss when reading!

Kbear · 17/02/2007 18:15

tribpot - but I think I must be the only one!

Blandmum · 17/02/2007 18:29

tribpot, I think that is exactly why he did it.

I think that when you take the memories out, they are no longer in your head (that being the case tho, how do you remember that you need to put them back???? )

OP posts:
tribpot · 17/02/2007 18:56

I think you must use a Post-it: "check Pensieve for any key memories temporarily extracted". I think it's reasonable to assume the third memory is why Dumbledore trusted Snape. There must be a reason why they don't want Harry to know that. Although as he went on to see the first two memories, maybe he was meant to see it, accidentally-on-purpose? You wouldn't have thought so given Voldemort's access to Harry's mind on occasion.
