A personal question...

I feel really stupid (not to mention slightly uncomfortable) asking this question... but here goes. When I'm bathing my 3 year old son, should I ever pull his foreskin back (assuming he will let me!) and try and clean under it? I have never done this but feel that it might be necessary, as I've twice in the last couple of months found little white marks on his pants which I can only assume is some kind of natural discharge. Hope this question is not beyond the pale..

medical advice now is not to pull the foreskin back to wash.

trip?

MamazonAKAfatty · 16/02/2007 23:37

Unless advised by a doctor i think the current advice is to leave well alone.
encourage your son to clean that area in general and he should be fine.

Thank you Armadillo and Mamazon. I have to say, that's a relief... I wasn't relishing the prospect! x

I've recently been asking DS (5) to pull his foreskin back in the bath, and swishing about with a flannel and soapy water in the area - not brave enough to give it a good wash. I've left it alone until now but I noticed an unpleasant smell on his hands after he'd been playing with his willy recently . At 3 years old your DS might not be able to pull his foreskin back, and if so I'd just leave it.

These little boys don't exactly need any encouragement to fiddle around in that area do they?! I think given the general consensus that it's best to leave it alone for the time being, I won't draw attention to the fact that there's an extra exciting 'thing' he can do with his willy i.e. pull the foreskin back, or he'll never stop!

lol - I'm sure he'll let you know when he can retract it on his own. My DS was VERY proud and wanted to show EVERYONE what his willy could do.

That's so sweet. Oh dear... smaller DS (11 mths) just started wailing.. better go.. Thanks for advice. Goodnight.
