I'm about to go to bed and 'ignore' DS1's alarm when it goes off in about 3/4hr...

We're (still) trying to encourage DS1 (6.5yrs) to get up and use the toilet in the night - not having much luck but that's a different thread. As a reminder to him (and to us to drag him out LOL) his alarm goes off at 11.30pm.

Thing is I worked last night - so apart from 1hr in the chair yesterday afternoon - and a few hours "dozing" on the sofa this morning (while the DS's used me and the sofa as a launchpad to do spiderman impressions while watching the movie) I've been up since 8am yesterday morning.

DH is out on the pss tonight with a group of Polish people he licensed (he's TV Licence Officer) the other day and I really can't be ared to wait up until 11.30......thing is I know that if I don't there's NO chance of him being dry in the morning (not that he's likely to be anyhow - he'll just be even wetter)..........go on tell me how horrible I am knowingly let my DS saturate the bed (again).

ahve a good nights sleep and you will feel better able to deal with it tomorrow

BadHair · 16/02/2007 23:02

Have a good night's sleep and get DH to check on him when he comes in, if he's still able to stand!

Thanks - I'm still here - umming and ahhing as to whether I should prop my eyes open for another 25 minutes - but TBH seen as though he's wet 99.99% of the time I suppose it really doesn't matter.

Not much chance of

a) me waking up to ask DH to check him when he comes home (whatever time that will be - he drove to their house and is going to leave the car and walk back - then pick the car up tomorrow.......it's not very far but knowing DH's sense of direction when p*ssed it could be ANY time tomorrow morning (ie after midnight tonight LOL) he finds his way home).

b) DH remebering to check him - I know what he's like on these p*ss ups with the Polish - somehow he seems to make friends with the REALLY friendly ones who have the best Vodka you could ever imagine..........

Right off to bed

fannyannie, don't worry about it
He will grow out of it eventually, mine did, although a good bit older
TBH the only way, and I know it sounds a bit cruel, is to let them be wet. If you make it all too comfortable they never learn to get up IYKWIM

fannyannie · 16/02/2007 23:11

oh he is usually dry when we get him up when his alarm goes off - does a HUGE wee in the toilet and is then saturated in the morning - he really doesn't seem to care (we had similar problems training him during the day when he was 3 - he didn't mind being wet ).

Yep, had the same problem here, but found out through clinic that most children appear like this i.e. not to care but they simply don't know how to control it. We were told they don't produce enough of a chemical in the brain to stop them wetting in the night, it really doesn't matter if you make them wee late at night/lift them, they'll still be wet - sorry. He really will grow out of it. One tip I was given was not to have the light (inc TV) on when he went to sleep, that apparently makes a difference . HTH

fannyannie · 17/02/2007 08:21

oh great - don't think we can do the 'no light' thing - he shares a room with DS2 who will freak out if he's put to bed in the dark!

Anyhow - went to bed after my 23.11 post last night - he was wet this morning - but not as wet as he could have been.

Just as well I didn't rely on DH getting him up.......he crawled home and into bed at 4.50am this morning LOL.

The 'no light' might not work anyway. Ds was still 9ish before he was dry at night and he slept in the dark. Worth a try though.
