I would love to play board games with dd, my mum has a massive snakes and ladders which we had fun with recently but it goes on a bit long for her really.

Any recommendations?

Orchard Toys board games are fab (and short).
Some may be a bit young for your dd, but there are loads to choose from.
I'll try to find a link...

Tiddliwinks is quite fun for them - DD4 loves it.
Also children's comics often have a game in them and they are often pretty quick.
Enjoy!

another recommendation for Pop to the Shops from Orchard, also Early Learning Centre have that annoying classic where you hang monkeys off a tree until it falls over...

agree re: pop to the shops. and there's a shopping trolley one that's similar but slightly more popular with the girls

Balloon Lagoon (Cranium) went down really well with my 4.5 yr old dd. It's easy for them to understand - she even took it to nursery and apparently 4 of them played it together with no probs.

there's also a fabulous one i've just noticed on the orchard toys website, What's Rubbish, to encourage your children to think about recycling! fab

Junior Monopoly is very good and also battleships if you want to go for things that are a bit more involved (and don't object to the capitalist and militarist overtones).

Mousetrap and Rumble in the Jungle(both take a while to set up but with R in the J you do it before the game starts), various Orchard games - Tummy Ache, Spotty Dogs and Pop to the shops have been favourites, Ravensburger games are good too if you can find them - younger Kids Labyrinth, Snails' Pace Race and a Funny Bunny/Lotti Karotti - but they seem harder to get hold of in UK than in Europe or US.

Ds is almost 4.6 yo and he loves Pop to the Shops and Bus Stop both by Orchard. He MADE me play them the night before last and it took hours

countessdracula - is your own version of pictionary isketch by any chance?
