DH facing the sack

Changed my nickname as I'm scared of possible repercussions.
OMG DH has come home tonight to tell me his assistant manager has been suspended on full pay for a very strange reason. He was called in about it and ultimately told he had no charges to answer to! He knew nothing about the alleged problem.
His work have been asking for people to take voluntary redundancy, and now this. I'm so scared he will be forced into it or even sacked for something they have come up with of the top of their heads.....
And all this with a toddler and a newborn

in a union? is it too late to join one? unions can give great legal advice

sickwithworry · 16/06/2004 19:33

He's speaking to the union tomorrow. I know they've been trying to get rid of people on contracts like his for ages. His contract has a no redundancy policy and is long standing. Tried to offer him £500 more per year but on a new contract without redundancy clause

hope everything goes well for your hubby tomoz xxxxxxxxxx

The company should have a disciplinary procedures policy, with written and verbal warnings. Unless he has done something really serious, or already received such warnings, they may well find it difficult to dismiss him. Union is best port of call for advice as to how to protect his position.

Hope the union can help. Like custardo, I am a great believer in them. Let us know how things go, what a worry for you.

sickwithworry, we have been and now are going through this. We moved 200 miles from home 7 weeks ago on a relocation package with my husbands firm. He thought something 'fishy' was going on before we moved but was assured his job would be safe for at least 2 years. 2weeks after we moved here he was told the company was closing. Fortunately he started registering with agencies before they told him this because he is a very suspicious man. At the end of july he will have no job. What a bunch of **!! i AM STILL HOPING HE WILL FIND SOMETHING.

I am going to give practical advice in that I think your husband ought to look for another job. The signs dont look good tbh. As far as tribunals and unions stand, it takes a long time. Sorry I am mrs doom and gloom but alot of companies dont care anymore and they cover their backs so well that 'we' are never right.

Latest is that assistant manager has been accused of fiddling to the tune of six grand!!!! There is no way this person has done this, would be very very complicated and involve about 15 people handing over the extra pay allocated. If you'd been paid extra would you want to hand it over? I think not.
DH is trying to stay on the periphary at the mo, and I am trying not to be too gloomy. I am worried but if push came to shove I would go back to work earlier than planned in a full time capacitt and DH would find something part time and definitely less stressful.
As yet, no warnings, not even verbal have been given to anyone. I am struggling to understand why this is happening now. DH and his team turned his work around from being in the red to being very strongly in the black. His aspect of the business keeps failing departments afloat.
Trying not to feel too down about it all
Fio2, my heart goes out to you, and I am keeping everything crossed that your DH finds something soon
And I hope we don't have to go down that road...

This must be such a worrying time for you.
I think your dh should apply for jobs anyway, just in case. Also it may worth keeping a dairy of events that are taking place. As it sounds like this could be a way of them getting rid of people on the old contracts.
I wouldn't always trust the unions as sometimes they are in with the managers ( heard this on many occasions) you may not get the correct advice. Therefore take independent advice.

Hope all goes well for you and sometimes as one door closes another one opens. Maybe this should be a wake up call for your dh and start writing that CV as it sounds like they are trying to cut costs. Good luck larsxx
