Should we take a card?

We have been invited to a BBQ on Sunday at the neighbours farm up the lane. It is being held following the Communion ceremony (sorry not sure of the correct way of putting that) for one of the daughters of the family. The family are really friendly and dh and I have been for coffee/glass of wine on a couple of occasions but I wouldn't say we know them that well.
I don't know much about the communion ceremony, I think it is similar to being confirmed?? I'm not sure whether you can buy cards for this occasion and if you can, should we we take one. I don't want to appear over the top or be intrusive, we aren't catholic ourselves but I equally didn't want to ignore the reason for the BBQ.
Can anyone offer any advice?

I would take a car Melly. Yes I think you can buy them but not entirely sure. If not just by a blank card maybe ?

I've seen them in Clinton Cards recently. It's Communion 'season' so they should be around. If not, as Tilllysmummy, says a nice blank card is a good idea. Mmm, not sure what you would write in it thought, maybe Congratulations on Receiving your First Communion.

As an R.C. mum I know that I'd be really touched if non-religious friends bothered to bring a First Communion card. It's a really special day-I still have all my cards so the thought would be appreciated. As Thumper said June is First Communion time so Clintons etc will stock cards. In case you're interested, First Communion is a sort of half-way between baptism and confirmation. The child isn't making an adult commitment to the Church but they are now considered old enough/informed enough to receive Communion. A lot of time and effort goes into preparing kids for this event, at church, home and school (if they go to an R.C. school).

Melly I would definately take a card .You should be able to get them at any card shop at this time of year, if not you should be able to get one at the church if you are attending the communion.

Thanks everyone for replying, I will definitely take a card, it's great to get other opinions on things like this.

Melly we went to a similar party last year and took a card with us and you can get one from most card shops. The little girl was really pleased and loved all the attention, as obviously is is quite a big thing if you are RC.
