Please help - nightmare inflating pram wheels!

Can anyone help me??!!! I've never used a bicycle pump before and am now trying to inflate pram wheels, but everytime I've pumped them up and then start to unscrew the pump from the wheel all the air flies out. What am I doing wrong????? Help would be so gratefully received or I may be housebound forever more. Thanks!

a little bit of air will come out. unscrew it faster!!

You just have to do it very very quickly I'm afraid! It's the valve in them - they are really sensitive - or they are on ours at least. You definitely haven't got a puncture have you?

We tend to use a garage air pump on ours !

oh bugger, I was hoping there was an easy way around it, but obviously I'm just not fast enough. I don't think I have a puncture. I only pumped it up to practise using the pump, rather than because it looked flat. I am rather wishing I hadn't bothered now. Oh dear! Thanks for your advice.

LIZS - does the garage pump have the same problem as bicycle pump - I guess it does if you're not quick enough?

Just asked dh (he does it not me!) and he says it's dead easy and the valve seals itself. Is it possible you have a problem with the valve itself ? A bike shop should be able to check it for you.

Thanks for asking him. I think i may send dh over to the garage later and get him to try. I am (I think) being ever so quick with the pump now but the tyre is just feeling more and more spongy so maybe we do have a valve problem - why can't they make 3-wheelers with proper rubber tyres!!!????

Just to let you know that I think I may have found a solution - if one person carries on pumping while the other person unscrews this seems to do the trick. I have tried carefully to phrase that so it doesn't sound too rude!!!
