It looks nice, i don't know how easy it is, could you not get someone to do it for you? like a friend or something??

Tommy · 14/06/2004 16:19

Is it wall paper? Or stickers? We had stickers in DS1's room when we first did it and they all fell off the all within days.
We just do paint in this house and put up lots of colourful posters.

CountessDracula · 14/06/2004 16:20

It does look easy - I don't know why but I find these sorts of things hard to envisage in the room, just sort of feel they would look messy and you would be so bored of them after about a week!

I would go for ones you can get off easily (if there is such a thing!)

Blu · 14/06/2004 16:21

oooh, looks ambitious, Twiglett! (good, though!) Personally, unless you can summon help, )'d stick with painting one wall a bright colour of his choice (maybe), and put up a magnetic board at his height so that he can put up his own pics / magnets, and maybe paint a big area in Chalkboard paint so that he can chalk? And put up cheap pictures/framed prints. And maybe cheap themed curtains/bedcover from Ikea.
But that's because I am lazy and incompetent where DIY is concerned

Soulfly · 14/06/2004 16:21

i think it depends where you get the stickers from, cause i know someone that had stickers and they stuck up for ages, unless the kiddies pick them off of course.

Hi. I did the teddy bears picnic one of these for our playroom - didn't pay more than a tenner for it though but got it years ago. It was easy to do - you just press them out and use wallpaper paste. They don't cover much of the wall though - we still had to paint the walls the right colour background for the scene (yellow and blue for ours). I think they are quite expensive for what you actuall get (5 sheets of pictures) but they do look nice though.

For our very small bedroom recently we had the walls and ceiling painted dark blue and stuck lots and lots of glow in the dark stars everywhere. I got glow in the dark bedding and matching space curtains (Marshall ward I think) and a rocket lava lamp from ASDA. That looks really great if I say so myself!!! I think I spent about £70 doing that although half of that was the curtains and duvet.

Have fun anyway whatever you do!!

It looks lovely twig but can you be arsed? I speak as one who stenciled a lone fish onto ds's wall the day before I went into labour which, 5 years on, ex dh finally got around to painting over

Thomcat · 14/06/2004 16:59

It looks nice but I'm another one who thinks they would get bored etc etc.

What I did with L's room was to have plain walls but decorate it with things like butterflies (£5 for pack), a bed canopy (£10), etc etc.

A shelf with loads of their lovely bits on it, and wipe boards/notice boars etc.

How old is he / how long till he grows out of dinosaurs??!!

why not buy one of the sticker sets from Homebase or B&Q (they do lots to choose from including Thomas the Tank and cost about £10). We've used them twice and they've never fallen off even when I've taken them down and moved them. Then get some cheap posters or good quality wrapping paper (Pheonix Trading have got some great designs out now that would make perfect posters/wall covers)and then when DS gets bored with the chosen theme you canc hnage it all at not too mcuh cost at all. And if I can do the stickers then just about anybody can as I am no good with my hands at all.

codswallop · 14/06/2004 17:37

I think keep it white and get abig clip frmae to pur posters in

Thomcat · 14/06/2004 17:48

joke shops for spider webs ????
Woolworths / Letterbox (website) / Urchin (website)

I have loads of brochures that I go through and find bits and pieces from there will try and remeber to dig them out for you and post the web addresses.

I've got things like a silver disco ball in Lotties room and hang ctystals in her window that catch the light and fill the room with lovley colours. Cheap and easy.

Also you can get these vinyl letters that spell out toys, sleep, hiw name etc that you could stick / hang over toy box / bed etc.

codswallop · 14/06/2004 17:50

letters form urchin

Hulababy · 14/06/2004 17:53

DD's bedroom walls are plain white but we have made them more colourful using Stick ons, glow in the dark stars and dolphins and posters. And then the accessories like bedding, shelves and curtains add more colour too.

Hulababy · 14/06/2004 17:56

Have you seen the magnetic paint you can get too? You put it underneath normal paint and it makes the wall magnetic. He could then stick bits and pieces on that too - letters, numbers and other magnets.

Flip · 14/06/2004 18:01

We got a wall freeze which covers the bottom part of the wall. It came from B&Q. You just roll it out onto the wall peeling it off a plastic back. No need to paste. It me and dh about three hours to do ds1's room but it is a big room with lots of awkward bits. We got a space man theme. this

JemimaBobbins · 15/06/2004 14:25

I know someone who used the Space from frieze frame. It looked great but not sure how easy it was - there were lots of fiddly bits.

My ds has the box room painted blue with a large border a foot down from the ceiling (painted white above border and ceiling). The border was a teddy one which I have now painted a bold yellow colour and have stick-ons from Next which match the theme of his duvet. It'll be easy to change when he wants to change theme.

He also has an area on the wall with magnetic paint which he originally used for letters but now for those fridge words and he loves sitting there making sentences.

fairydust · 15/06/2004 15:15

b&q do some great stickers and not to expensive if they grow out of the design

Thomcat · 16/06/2004 10:39

I was going through my mags last night and Greta Little Trading Co do some great stuff for room, stickers, posters etc, have a look here

miggy · 16/06/2004 13:03

DS1 has exactly that, now 10 and has had it since he was 5, and he wont let me change it!
His room has a dado rail so painted above the dado rail in a blue sky colour and my father put the stuff up. It did take him ages but he took great pride in his work and carefully made a 3d effect by threading dinosaurs tails in and out of trees etc
it does look really effective and hasnt peeled at all in 5 yrs. it isnt my taste at all but ds loves it. Cutting the bits out was very fiddly, we all helped cutting out little insects and things.
