where can I get sofa covers professionally dyed?

I've made a bit of a hash of dyeing our sofa covers and I think I now need to get them stripped and re-dyed. I've decided though to admit defeat and get them done professionally but Yellow Pages and Google searches aren't coming up with any companies that can help me.

Does anyone know who might do this please?

There is a company in Baker Street called something like We will dye for you.

CountessDracula · 14/06/2004 11:44

my local shoe dye company have just given me 2 companies to try.
Showhurst on 020 7254 3789 and Ecologic on 01455 618660.

Off to collect DS from playgroup but I'll be calling them later andd will let you know how I get on Toothache.

Thanks McKenzie - But do they do it by post? I'm in Central Scotland you see.
I'm wondering how long I'd be without sofa covers if I had to package them and send them to London.

mckenzie · 14/06/2004 12:49

just spoken to Knowhurst and they will do it for £100 regardless of size, number fo cushions etc. He's also going to strip mine first for the same cost. They are in Hackney, East London. The other tel number is ringing constantly engaged just now but i'll try again later. I didn't ask the first lot about doing it by post Tothache as I hadn't seen your message until just now. Sorry.

funny old world this. In the park this afternoon got chatting to an old chap who was there with his grandson and he was in the 'trade' before he retired. Asked him about the sofa covers and he says not to do it! Apparently they'll come back looking like rags, the fabric will never be the same again and the fit is likely to be very poor. He suggests you only have a go at dyeing them if they are no good as they are, ie, they have hideous stains on them, in which case you've not got too much to lose, except the cost of the dyeing process.
So, it's new sofas for me then I think. Oh heck, how am i going to get those past DH??

Hi I know this thread was last year but did you get your sofa covers dyed in the end? I have had some done in the past and the old guy you chatted to was absolutely correct - they do come back like rags and they didn't even press mine but they were just about usable. Trouble was the areas where sun had faded them took dye differently to rest of covers but they did for a while. I think it's only worth doing if you are going to throw them out anyway. I have Multiyork furniture and they have gone bust now so can't replace the covers (apart from Plumbs) When I bought covers from them in the past they cost over £1000 which is why I tried to get them dyed! I am looking for a company now to try and dye some old green ones to Navy - they were literally in bags waiting to be thrown so I might give your £100 company a call.Anyway thanks for the info and wish me luck!!

This was 2004, not 2024 😁

I don’t even remember it.
