Should I have made postal insurance compulsory on Ebay auction?

I have just listed a lovely patchwork quilt top that I have made for sale on Ebay.
Then I read the thread on the Post Office losing parcels. I'm panicing! Should postal insurance be compulsory or is it enough that I obtain a receipt?
None of my previous listings have gone astray in the post

I've got 90+ sales/purchases under my Ebay belt and am yet to lose one in the post. If it is high value item then I do usually send it recorded delivery. I also state on all of my listings that I will obtain proof of postage but I am NOT liable for any items which are lost/damaged in transit.

To the value of 28 pounds a certificate of posting will do when you post it, if the auctions still going you can add to your auction stating you will send it recorded or whatever but only if they pay for the service. I have 430 transactions and nothings gone astray yet, a few ones have taken 15-21 days to arrive and ones came back to me but so far so good!

When the auction has ended, you can send an invoice and state how you're going to send it, e.g. recorded delivery and how much it will cost, and you could give them the option of insurance but that will be down to them if they pay for it. But I usually do recorded delivery so that someone has to sign for it. Havent had any trouble so far, except for post being a bit slow!

Thanks for your comments everyone

I have not lost anything but just worried reading the other thread. I have put insurance as an option but always get proof of posting from the PO.

Charliecat - I'll be pleased if I got £28 for it altho that will barely cover my costs!
