She has to play her flute alone in front of a fairly big audience next week. She's understandably getting very nervous and is also nervous about the "nerves" affecting her playing. How do I help her to stay calm and confident.
She's practised loads and is quite confident with her piece,so she is prepared.

Hi ggirl, one good tip is to tell her to focus one one or two places in the auditorium, just above the audience's head height. A lot of actors 'push' their performance to the level of the dress circle, deliberately avoiding eye contact with anyone at stalls level.

If the audience are closer and she is able to see their faces, suggest she looks at their eyebrows instead of their eyes.

Remind her that nerves are good, they are showing her that she cares about the performance. Deep breaths will really help. She could take a small favourite thing with her - a photo or a little keepsake - to put on her music stand so that she can focus on that and close out the audience. Good luck to her!!

Tell her she's not alone! I worked with actors for 16 years and several of the best-known ones hated seeing the audience - some even used to remove glasses or contact lenses so that it was all blurry! I hope it goes really well for her

I just googled "performance nerves" and apparently imagining the audience is naked is helpful, lol. She'll like that one!
Also bananas help stop the over production of adrenalin.
Thanks for your good wishes.
