Ok, my quandry is this - we were all standing around chatting at school gates and along comes a Land Rover which backs into a space randomly without any indication, almost taking out a fiesta in the process. I made a remark about the careleessnesss of this manoever (?sp) others agreed and made remarks such as 'aah well you're not going to come off worse if you're on a 4x4 ha ha', to which I said 'don't get me started on 4x4s'. I may have redeemed myself slightly by adding a little snippet about apparently Mini Coopers being environmentally worse than 4x4s or so I'd heard on some TV debate.
I then realised on the walk up the school path that the husband of one of the women present drives a f*k off huge Land Rover.
I feel awful because this person has a lot of things on her plate atm and I don't want to think I've upset her
Now, do I

  1. Mention it tomorrow and apologise for possibly offending her with my obvious disdain for 4x4s.
  2. say nothing, and hope I can redeem myself at a future date.

Pelase tell me I'm not the only one who opens their mouth before thinking - I think I get nervous and go on verbal overdrive in an attempt to make friends. Must stop, must stop.

ghostofmumsnet - not sure about the facts about the mini cooper - but just found
this website where you can check your carbon emissions.

link isn't working for some reason, but it appears in the URL line of the error page.

Mini Cooper seems to be highly dependent on the model - switches from category C emissions (not bad) to E depending on model. I suspect the person in the debate I heard had typically compared the top of the range Mini Cooper with a bottom of the range relatively economical mini 4x4 just to get his point across!!

I wouldn't worry, you said it unwittingly and everyone has opinions....

throckenholt · 07/02/2007 08:42

not sure I see the problem here - you voiced an opinion that you don't like 4x4's (you are not alone in that). She (or her DH) happens to have one. She also happens to have other problems at the moment. I don't see how your opinion affects her other problems.

If I were you I would generally be friendly and supportive to her and not go out of your way to mention 4x4's - she is aware of your opinion but it is entirely irrelevant to their life and choices.

say nothing.

in my (considerable) experience of putting my foot in it, huge, genuine, lasting offence has mostly been taken as a result of me trying to dig myself out of the original hole.

it only makes things worse, lovie.
