Am I the only 26 yr old with no savings???

This question has been triggered by many things. One being someone posting on here that they would rather not dip into their savings for £15,000 for something! I nearly fell off my chair!

We have no savings (well.... about £300 in an ISA). We did have about £2000 but spent that on appliances for the kitchen and furniture when we bought our first house. Ds was born 2 mths later and we've never really managed to save since then!

I fully intend to start saving after I return to work fulltime early next year, but am I the exception???

At 26 yrs old I wouldn't imagine many people who have a mortgage and kids have much in the way of savings...... or do they??

Opinions please....

Pah toothache, do you live in a Jiffy bag?

vingers, tax credit are a law to themselves. We don't qualify for anything but they are still paying us and won't stop! Paid us last year too (decided I was a single mum) but haven't taken it back. From the looks of the forms they think I earned about £10k less than i actually did last year. Can't be ar**d any more.

A couple of thousand in a savings account but nothing to speak of (and we just managed to save that last year). Am also 12 years older than you, Toothache!!

No savings and no mortage either.

But we are managing to reduce our debts, so once we sort those out we'll be OK. Probably should put a bit aside anyway. I'm 33 BTW

Nope nothing (i am 26 tommorow). No mortgage, no savings, nothing.

Don't mind not having a mortgage at all, but would like some savings.

When i eventually go to work though, hoefully i will be able to save then.

I do get stressed about not having a pension though. Govermnent wrote to me recently to say that there will be a shortfall of 350 in my state pension

All my savings are from overpaid tax credits. I feel temporarily comfortable.

At 27, we have a mortgage and about £2K in savings - which I am sure will soon be eaten up once my erm generous SMP stops next months - I intend to be a SAHM mum if we can afford it!

Lilymum - Oxford prices are a nightmare, as bad as London aren't they (used to live in Oxford) - would you consider moving to Banbury?
