OK - 4-bed semi, landing light stays on all night, do maybe 6 loads washing 3 loads tumble-dry each week (tumble-drier is a sensor one and so uses less than i was with old tumble-drier).

Why oh why is it so much?

Erm, good question
You could try unplugging it and seeing how much your meter slows down (for half an hour or so compared to how fast it goes when it is on). Also the compressor noise should turn on and off, so if it is on all the time then that might be a problem. Will think on it...

We live in a tiny one bedroom shoebox, with no tumble drier or dishwasher and out bill is £76 per month.

I am still locked in a bitter wrangle with Scottish Power over this as cannot believe we can use that mauch electricy (two adults and a baby, energy A rated fridge freezer adn washing machine, use shutters to keep the warmth in, only use washing machne at night, low energy lightbulbs etc)

All Scottish Power will say to my numerous complaints - including one from energy watch is that this amount is not excessive, even though I have copies of friends bills that are 1/3 of what we pay - apparently what other people pay is irrelevant

Do you have white meter heating as I think that is why mine are sooooo huge (although as is a one bed we only have one actual heater so maybe not)

I get v worked up about it but get no where when I query it - hope you have better luck!

OMG - £105 for two of you!
Surely that IS excessive?

Have you queried it?

What is your gas bill? is it Electric or gas heating and what about the cooker and the water heater?

I just has a shock when I looked at our bill properly - we use ecotricity which I would expect to be more but it was always about £38 on a monthyl debit thing. We have solid fuel central heating, solid fuel cooking and solid fuel hot water. No tumble dryer. Quick glance at our bill and they have been taking £98 for the last 3 months and still reckon we owe them another £250!!!!!!! How.

As with the others I can only conclude it is due to costs increasing. I compared with other suppliers and it seemed about right. Still don't understnad how we can owe them so much on a monthly scheme but they seem to have ignored my query!
