I washed my white thin jersey material top and put it on the radiator to dry, it's now got loads of little yellowy coloured stains on it. I am presuming it's rust or something. Have tried vanish oxy powder, soaked it scrubbed it and it's no better. Would bleach be a good idea? help!

Aerial future big chunky tablets normally get everything off for me (ground in dirt, mud etc)

Branster · 07/06/2004 17:01

wouldn't a dry cleaner be able to restore it for you?

SpringChicken · 07/06/2004 17:06

Put bleach on it but make sure you put in the wash STRAIGHT AWAY or you will end up with even more marks.
Bleach gets my white clothes up perfect but have to be sure to get the washing machine going straight away.

what about glo-white or something similar.. You can get sachets to do your nets/voiles etc It may be a bit gentler than bleach. hth

Swarfega is excellent for all kinds of marks/stains including curry

linzoid · 07/06/2004 17:18

would i put the bleach on neat then? or maybe soak in diluted bleach? whats best?

soak it in strong bleach solution then wash it to get the smell out. Neat bleach can actually yellow things so if you put it on neat you may get yellow patches.

If all else fails I've had some success with spraying dds white clothes with flash kichen with bleach (when horribly stined with god knows what paint and food). If you wash it straight afterwards this may work.

Are you sure it's rust, linzoid? Was there some on the radiator? Stain Devils do a rust remover (or used to).

Ammonia removes blood but I don't know if it would work on random not-blood stains.

You could also try hydrogen peroxide which is gentler than chlorine bleach.

If you do use bleach as a last resort don't leave it on long as it can actually destroy the fabric.

Good luck - it is so annoying when this happens!
