Hello all, need some help with deciding. What is actually the difference between the two? I have come to the conclusion that i believe someone is out there but not god or such like. So i think it might be wise to have my dd dedicated or named etc. Any good websites on this or any info anyone has out there?

THanks

A dedication is, ime, typically a Christian ceremony but is not actually full baptism. Some Christians believe that their children should not be baptised as infants but instead should make their own decision once they are older. The service is one of thanksgiving for the child and a dedication of the parents to the task of raising the child in the Christian faith.

A naming ceremony is basically an "alternative" cermeony, and basically you can make it what you want to be. Mostly it is a celebration of the new life, but if you have specific beliefs then you can incorproate those too. Essentially it is an opportunity for family and friends to get together to celebrate, give thanks for and welcome the child. You can either get in touch with say the local humanist society who can provide someone to lead a ceremony, or you can do it yourself - in whatever format you like. There are a few threads in archives which will give you an idea as to what some other people have done (eg readings that they have chosen, or music etc).
