My DB is driving me mad, he is 9 months old now and won't lie still while I change his nappy. Any tips on how to do it, am now a v. frustrated mother.

give him a toy, book, shiny thing, anything ! to momentarily distract him

also, make sure everything is to hand that you need !

lazymoo · 24/01/2007 14:11

Lie him on your lap, then lean over so you are putting (slight) pressure on his torso, then hold his legs with one hand.

Taz2 · 24/01/2007 14:12

I feel like tying him down!

Bit of sellotape to play with?
Sing a nappy song (something like Scoobidoobidoo, where are you, we hope you're feeling happy....it's time to change your nappy. Dramatic pause before nappy and happy.)

If he's in disposables you have no sympathy, 2 part real nappies are much harder to get on a wriggly child.

paulaplumpbottom · 24/01/2007 17:37

If you are at home change him on his gym

AlpenCrazy · 24/01/2007 18:24

agree with the gym - or a musical arch also try pull up nappies I found them much easier to get on once DS got wriggly

cece · 24/01/2007 18:42

Put mat on floor.

Sit to side and lie him down.
Use one leg to hold him down as you change him with two hands.

Easy

cece · 24/01/2007 18:43

Sorry the leg goes over his torso. Oh and do it really quickly!

NappiesGalore · 24/01/2007 18:50

give him a shot of morphine. thatll slow him down for a bit.

tez2 symphathys my dd is 1 and i have to chase her around the room hoping she doesn't sit down on the carpet yuk!
Bless her cotton socks she just laughs and i can't help but laugh with her.
I've tried the book, toy, anything to catch attention, i also talk to her about what i'm doing and why to no avail.
My advise is just go with the flow and enjoy every minute with your dd as they grow up too quick and before you know it they are at school.

pull ups

Plibble · 24/01/2007 19:58

BURNINGTHECANDLE · 24/01/2007 20:01

paulaplumpbottom · 24/01/2007 20:08

Good advise Kidsrus

Taz2 · 24/01/2007 21:32

Thanks, I like the sound of pull ups! Perhaps I am just having a bad day.

pull ups are so expensive though bloody rip off less in pack for same money!

in our house it's Twinkle Twinkle (DD2 who's 1 sings along and does the actions) that usually works if not it's leg over torso time.

deaconblue · 24/01/2007 21:42

I give ds who's the same age an inappropriate/forbidden item to hold e.g remote control, my hairbrush, drinks coaster. He is over the moon that he's got something he can't usually get his hands on and lays still admiring his prize

rookiemum · 24/01/2007 21:45

My Dh reckons there would be a market for a nappy changing mat with velcro arm cuffs.

I usually try to get DS when he is standing up, but he usually sits down and shuffles poo into the carpet.
