Any ideas gratefully recieved....how can we make ours look a bit different?

The one we're with has got a couple of flat screen TVs in the window which displays their properties for a few seconds each. Quite eye catching and always makes me stop to have a look!

dhw · 23/01/2007 21:59

we thought of this too - but to be honest they are very expensive (the one which isn't light reflecting is £8K) and we dont' want to be too corporate. We want to be different to all the other agents!

I was wondering about a dolls house?

Or Ken and Barbie playing house?!

Great minds dh I was just asking dp what he thought of a dolls house and maybe phots shot like a glossy interiors mag and hung in frames?

Dottydot · 23/01/2007 22:01

you don't want to be too 'cute' though - buying houses is a serious thing and I'd want to know that me and my huge mortgage were being taken seriously!

Sorry - don't want to dampen your enthusiasm and just initial thoughts. I'll think a bit more about attractive windows. I think mainly when I'm walking past an agents I want to see as much as possible in the window (in case I'm being lazy/scared to go in).

So you want to be welcoming but not too cute. Tricky..!

noddyholder · 23/01/2007 22:02

photos even

noddyholder · 23/01/2007 22:04

I don't think it is necessarily cute if done properly.

Dottydot · 23/01/2007 22:05

Noddyholder - poor old dhw is going to get completely opposing views from us! My reaction to glossy photos in the window would be (a) they've not got enough properties on their books to display - why? and (b) if they have got lots of properties, why aren't they in the window..?!

noddyholder · 23/01/2007 22:07

I mean the shots of the houses they are selling shot more like you would want to live in them rahter than the usual snaps which are generally dark and don't look that great

BURNINGTHECANDLE · 23/01/2007 22:07

How about photos but hung at different angles and in brightly coloured frames?

Dottydot · 23/01/2007 22:07

oh OK - maybe, but I wouldn't want just a few houses taking up all the window space - as a seller I'd want my house to have space in the window and as a buyer I want to see as large a range as possible.

Skribble · 23/01/2007 23:48

I would fill the space with pics, floorplans and details of every house in rough price order. Thats what people expect and makes it easy to look and then go in and ask for full schedules, Eye catching displays are fun and all that, but I think most people will stop and look if they are wanting to buy anyway, they will pass bye if they are not looking to buy a house.

Its not like a sweet shop or fashion shop, you don't try and hook people in on impulse.

As a seller I see having details in the window as part of the selling package. We have a street of agents in our town and people work their way down the street looking in all the windows.

So smart, simple , professional and welcoming not garish, overly complex or confusing.

There's a nice one on our town which has all the usual displays of pictures but has large cream candles (unlit) and ivy/greenery trailing round too. Looks really effective as it just dresses the window rather than overshadows the properties on display.

thanks everyone - great to get ideas. Although buying a house is never an impulse purchase, people do spend a long time just window shopping and one day when they are ready to move/buy a house we want them to remember us and contact us.
